I'm was wondering what would happen if someone used a different ECU than the exact one that is specified for your car. For the G50 model series there are over 60 different part numbers. For Active cars there are 24 different part numbers that I was able to find.

The differences I've noticed in the listings are:

1. For Federal or California Models2. With Traction Control System or without3. Different years

Here is a list:

Really theres no differences except 90-93 and 94-95 and 96... 8 bit vs 16bit vs OBDII..

The ECU's are same except for some minor tuning differences.. Its thought that the early 90s ECU's are the most powerful as far as the tuning. Doesnt really matter because most people would go NICO ECU if they wanted more power!

I swap out my ECU's on a very often.

I'll tell you about my experience.

The ECUs I have are:1992 Q451994 Q45t w/TCS (stock ECU for 94 Q45t)1993 Q45 (stock ECU 93 Q45)1995 Q45

I only swap ECUs on the 94 Q45t. The differences are in performance are minor yet great in fuel consumption:-1992 ECU saves a significant amount of fuel over stock, especially cruising @ 80MPH. Does not have more torque but it does feel like a stronger acceleration force. CEL comes on once in a while. HICAS works, but doesn't feel "intelligent."-1995 ECU is extremely responsive, compared to stock. The stock is lazy, tired and old. Takes a LOT more gas. I can waste a 1/4 tank in less than 50 miles. It is also the fastest and smoothest.

If I start having issues I always switch back to the stock ECU.

Without reliably generated significant data adjusted for uncontrolled variables, the above post is useless. A subjective feeling is no substitute for hard data.
