93q, Drivers side door lock will not lock/ unlock by pressing the lock switch. All other doors work just fine, I just got an alarm w/ keyless entry and It won't unlock my drivers door . It seems like there is a weak signal going to the switch, it will move the lock lever when I hit the unlock/lock button, it seems like it doesn't have enough the power to unlock it. I have to manually push the lock lever to lock my door. It worked somewhat when I got the car 2 years ago, but it has gradually gotten worse. Is this a mechanical or electrical problem?

Or BOTH! You are lucky that you have this warning so you can now disassemble and repair before you get stuck with a broken locked lock mechanism.

Destructive to try to take the trim off with a locked unyielding door.

Before you replace the lock assembly. See if the door P/W amp is functioning. Is the lock the only thing wrong or does the window act strange too? I just replaced the amp on the passenger door, the lock would work but you had to manually lock it. Also the window would roll up and down regardless if the car was on. And the console window switch didn't work.

The point I was trying to make is both the manual [inside and key] and electrical rods are attached to lock mechanism with plastic connectors eventually these break leaving you unable to get to the mechanish without destroying the inside trim.

Just preventative maintenance to examine and replace as needed after 10-15 years of use.

Good point... you really do not want to be trying to get in there when the door is stuck shut. There are several threads on that topic...

Ok, so I have the panel off and all the plastic connectors on the rods are in good shape. I read the article on q45.org about the door lock timer, but it states that if only 1 door doesn't lock/unlock when you hit the switch it is not the lock timer that is bad, but my car has the symptoms that it describes. Are there any other electrical components i need to inspect?I'm thinking I need a new actuator, I called joe @ infiniti parts and he said it would run $125, but I want to make sure thats whats wrong before I order it.

Well before you go buying a new anything talk to poppop...... he probably has a good working used one for less than a third of the price of a new one. They are easily replaced so not out much. You can also locate at junk yards. Simple to replace and easy to find. I have the same problem and have the parts but since it is below zero in Indy I will wait a while longer to get to it.
