This site by Johnson Controls has a lot of good battery information. http://www.autobatteries.com/default.aspx

The G50 uses a Group 27 battery. That covers the physical size and post configuration. Beyond that it's more an issue of what's available in your area. Some members are big fans of the Optima batteries, but I haven't had a dead battery and the desire to pay that much more for a battery strike me at the same time.

BTW, on your comment about OEM batteries - "Infiniti" batteries are just rebadged Interstate batteries the last time I checked. Here are the specs. for their Group 27 battery - which should be about as close to OEM as you would get. The physical case size should be the same... basically the difference will be weight at possibly CA and CCA.

Product ID: MTP-27(Automotive Truck) Amps: 940 Cranking Amps: 940 Cold Cranking Amps: 750 Voltage: 12 Termination: A Pro-rata Warranty: 85 Weight: 47.2 Width: 6.81 Length: 12.06 Height: 8.88

In theory the most robust battery will be the heaviest, and you want to make sure it's build date is very recent... no dusty shelf dwellers that have been sitting in the store for a year or two. I would also avoid anything that has both top posts and side terminals... you don't need the side terminals, and I had one of the unused side terminals leak on my Mom's old Maxima.

Stick with the OEM battery and use the battery case, or go with a group 27 or 34 aftermarket battery {Consumers Reports Nov 08 issue tested and ranked them all....get the highest rated one within your budget} and purchase a heat reflecting battery wrap{ $10} to reflect the heat away from battery to prolong its life.

good info guys. does anyone have experience with aftermarket group 27s? i would like a dry cell although i am not an optima fan, but for the brands i am lookin at the group 27s are coming in at 13" long. if that can fit i can just step up to a group 31 and get the battery i really want. from what i recall, when i measured for it last time i didn't have the room.

I just replaced my Duralast battery I bought about 5.5 years ago from autozone.. I replaced it with an autocraft titanium, 1000A, 800CCA at 0F... Got it for $80 with my "friendly discount".

My friend who works at advance said that pretty much all aftermarket batteries come from Johnson Controls, of varying levels of quality.. He always says that optima's are a waste of money and I tend to believe him..

The top of the line batteries you get at advance or autozone are all pretty good and should last you a while. My friend says he sees way more optima batteries come back than the "generic" ones that are rebaded Johson Controls..

Most OEM have a domestic market manufacturer make their batteries, but to their specifications. So if it is merely a rebadged one, you can be certain is meets a specified OEM standard.

Red Top are real over rated, but they sure work a long time and don't leak.

Optima quality has slipped since Johnson Controls bought them.

I am currently using the Duralast Gold from AutoZone in my Q. It's been in there since Feb. or Mar. of '06 I think. I have never had a battery make it past three years in the Q. Conveniently they tend to die right as their free replacement warranty ends

In terms of the Group 37, check the depth of the battery... anything over Group 27's depth will prevent you from using the tiedown. Also be mindful of the pole orientation, you don't want the pos. and neg. terminals to be in the wrong spot left to right, or on the front instead of the back side - since the cables won't reach.
