First off, my blower only works sometimes. I can set the controls to whatever position I want and I can hear the flaps in the dash move and I can hear a relay click under the dash.

Regardless of temp/fan speed setting, the blower will only come on when it feels like it LOL. Sometimes it will work for days in a row. It will sometimes start blowing as soon as I turn the car on, or while in the middle of driving.

I did a lot of research here, and I came to the conclusion that its either the wiring, the resistor, or the motor itself. I cleaned up the fan motor, and its in pretty good condition now. But that didn't solve the problem.

I think I will go back to the junkyard and pull the resistor out of that Q, if that fails I'll create my own little fan controller switch. All I would need to do is find a resistor of the correct wattage and value to give me a comfortable fan speed.

Go to the NICO classifieds for Infiniti and post a request for a darlington resistor. Someone is bound to have one to sell.

Most of the time the blower resistor wont always cause the blower to not operate, rather it only works on HIGH...

Could be that or a bad connection somewhere....

Or dirty brushes in the blower motor - although that typically takes a fuse out in my exprience.

unless you already have the controls set to turn on the blower it won't turn on by itself as you described. You didn't specify if the controls were ON or not when the fan comes on when it want's to. I'd be looking at all of the connections from the controls to the blower. If you turn on the A/C and the blower doesn't turn on does the A/C compressor at least turn on (or start cycling)? If not then the controls aren't providing the output or plug/wires may be loose.

Resister, like Wes said, typically only cause it to run on HIGH or nothing unless of course the wires on it are loose.

Yes it only comes on if the controls are on. Everything is normal except for the blower only working on occasion.

Off topic, but the passenger side front window will roll up and down without the car being on. Its the only one that does that. Also the window motor will continue to run after the window is all the way up or down, if you hold the switch that is. I think that I have some electrical problems! Its time to break out the trusty DMM and get to hunting.

Problem solved. I took the blower out, removed the top plate on the motor, and sprayed a lot of brake cleaner in there.Works like a champ now.

I have also discovered that its the door amplifier thats bad. I haven't looked but can I switch it out with one from a different door. The Q45 at the salvage yard doesn't have the one I need.

Awesome. I had an Altima that did the same thing. We removed the blower and beat on it with a hammer.

Your way is much more elegant.
