Hello. I have my q for 3 years now and I love it. I got it with 100,000 now it's got 175,000 on it. I got it from an old man. I know about the timming chin problems. But going to push it to the spring to take it apart. I know that's not good. This is the main problem with my trany. The trany seams to get stuck in 3th gear. When I don't make a full stop at a stop sign or go around a corner. If feels likes a dog when it dose this. Unless I punch the gas or drop it in 2ed gear then it's ok. when drop into 2ed gear it goes right in nice and smooth. It's been doing this since I got the car. And I feel it's is destroying 3th gear and the transmission. There are some other things wrong with it to. When it up shifts from 2ed to 3th it doesn't go right in it has a dalay. These problems are worse when it cold. Since I've had it I have change the trany fliud 4 times. Since it's a 93 it starts off in 1st gear witch I am glad about that. Other then the trany the car is great. I change the oil every 3000 miles. Done a full tune up or 2. Bult date 11/92 with TCS

Sounds like you should budget for a Nissan rebuilt transmission from http://www.infinitipartsusa.com if your guides are still intact in the spring. And an auxiliary ATF cooler and rear engine seal, and most likely a third motor mount with exhaust hangers.

Welcome to the club.

Might want to read every post by Q45tech before you ever start your car again. Really could save you some heart break.

i wouldnt plan on a new trans just yet. Do you ever get "Transmission malfunction"? It could be something else causing the trans to go into failsafe (locked in 3rd gear)...

I have never got a " transmission malfunction" yet. I have done the troubleshooting with gas peddle and shifter is comes up OK on screen on the dash. Plus when i am going to make a full stop it goes from 3th to 1st and skips 2ed. If i drive in 3th gear when i make a full stop it bangs in to 1st.

Could it be the throttle position sensor?

I was going rebuild it myself when it started to slip. I have rebuilt some transmissions and they have came out great.

I have two other q45T one 91 and one 92. Going to make 1 good car out of them in the spring. My 93Q with TCS I just put new OEM parts on it.

Thanks for the help.

It doesn't sound like the TPS to me. If your car would not get past 3000 RPM at all or some other RPM then I'd say it could be the TPS, but what your describing sounds like the transmission. You can find good JDM transmission's out there for $200-$480 shipped or picked up from some importers so that's another option.

I'd take it in and see what codes are being thrown, then you'll know for sure.
