Hello I need help I purchased a Q45 1990 a year ago for a steal. 1000 because the guy thought the trans was shot. It turned out to need a trans flush and I drove it out of his yard. Well now the car is falling apart cosmetically but still good mechanically. I plan on using the as much of the car for a 240 swap that has been in the works since 2000. I know the rear diff will work in the 240 the engine will fit and I purchased the adapter plate necessary for a 5 speed 300zx tt trans to bolt up. I was wondering what drive shaft is required, for this swap. Also I wanted to know if I could scavange from the Q to convert the 240 to a 5 lug conversion as well as increase the stopping power. Also I needed a wiring diagram for the 240 and the Q so I can splice the Q engine harness to the 240. once this is done I can move to upgrades after the 240 is running good. I plan on changing the Guides prior to the swap and relocating the oil filter and installing a oil cooler. Can someone help me. The 240 is painted already with the engine and trans pulled so now i have to dismantle the Q for all swapable parts. Thanks

once i see you've posted im going to move this to the VH/VK forum where help will be abounding. Ive posted articles in the HOW TO section about the wiring/circuit diagram.

If your using the Q diff you can use the rear spindles and wheel bearings.... You cant use the front hubs I DONT THINK, but you could try...

Remember the Q has 2 knock sensors, 2 extra injectors, the 8 individual coils, the VVT control, 2 O2, misc extra wires ...............about 20 extra wires not found in 240 harness that will have to be run.

You will need to use the Q ecu harness and the w40 dash harness.

Good luck..............spend a few weeks studying and designing a combo.

Im sure it will be difficult. But this has been in the works for a while. Is there any reason Y I cant pull the complete wiring harness and swap it into the 240. I mean I was planning on using the fuel pump fuel computer and and as much of the car possible to have this 240 reliable yet a sleeper. A mild exhaust to keep it quiet until its time. I know the hood has to be modified but I still want to keep it classy. The cars show name will be CLASSYFIED. The car already has the JACQUEMOND body kit on it so I want it different all the way around. After it is up and running I will probably have the intake polished intake and as much croming as possible under the hood.

If you're doing a swap like this, you'd be better off spending your money on making it go faster, than on getting everything chromed (expensive). I don't know that many people who are actually impressed by chrome engine bays.

If you plan on using the diff you will need one axle from the q (on pass. side you need to use the drivers side q45 axle)and one from a 300zx turbo (drives side needs drivers axle). Then you will have to use the q's hubs, all that should bolt in. You can't use the front hubs, you will need s14 parts for that. Other wise the brakes are bolt in. As for the drive shaft your probly going to have to get a custum one made. Don't worry, custum driveshafts are not that expensive.

I hear what your sayin but if you read all of my posts and others you would know there is a limit to power for the Q45 without excessive dollars. So I am looking for a total package car. Reasonably upgrade power, custom paint job and body kit and a engine bay you can eat off of. I love speed but also know what I like and reality. Im working with a 15,000 budget and I am 5+ into it. Im not trying to go over that amount ; so i will have a clean street to strip show car to be proud of and will still have plenty of power. Plus Im more worried about traction after the swap than I am more power. You can only use as much power as the suspension can handle. But thanks for your comments.

One more piece of info to finalize this project. I have everything to do this swap or have someone do it. Please nobody bite my head off. But I want to know is the bolt pattern for the VK56 the same as the vh45de. (transmission wise. Im asking because there seems a lack of aftermarket parts for the Q but it appears that they are making alot of hp gains with the vk56. that being said. If I can mate the z32 tt 5speed trans to the vk56, use the after market flywheel and parts I already purchased I will sell the Q and use the money from that to offset the price and shipping of the vk56. also is the crank bolt pattern/flywheel pattern the same as the Q. Just brain storming. It seems I will get more HP at less money with the vk than the vh

If your on a budget then the vk isn't for you, they're rather expensive. I really have no clue about the bolt pattern for the transmission though. And chrome retains heat, so be careful what you crome under the hood.

hey trick 240, i think you have been emailing the shop about this project. the wiring is pretty easy, using the q45 engine harness and s13 body harness. check "carfische.com" for factory service manuals you can download.

Yea, wiring the harnesses up are easy if you take your time to read the wiring diagrams. I think my VG swap was about 10-12 wires that needed to be re-wired and that was it. I had to move some of them from one side of the car to the other, but that comes with the territory. Dash harness is another 6 or so wires, but thats the easy one anyway.

well at this point it is still in the works. so far I have the engine and trans in custom TT manifolds made turbos in, custom intake pipe installed, electric water pump, 300zx intercoolers with motorcycle fans mounted to them to provide additional cooling without larger innercooler, custom exhaust exiting left and right side of car and a venom nitrous system in the works. things needed computer reprogram, and car wired up. will post pictures soon of the ongoing project.

Can you elaborate on the VG to VH wiring? I understand it if was a while ago and you don't remember, but I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Thanks!
