HI folks,

I know most of you have moved on to newer cars, but I just purchased a nice 2009 G37X Sedan (no NAV) for my wife. She requires a backup camera.

What's the most effective way to provide a backup camera for her? I'd be very interested in a plug-and-play option.

For example, could I install the actual Infiniti camera and other parts from a wreck?

Is there a clear go-to aftermarket choice for doing this?

What other ideas are out there?

Thanks,

I dunno about aftermarket, but from what I see in the FSM, adding the factory cam is probably impractical. Only the navi came with one, and your harnesses probably lack most of the wires to support that. You might want to consider one of those aftermarket split rear-view mirrors with the display in the mirror pane, some of those are pretty nice and won't require tearing up the dashboard.

There are many videos on UTube on adding a non-oem backup camera to your Infiniti. Most guys use a camera that attaches at the top of the license plate.

Depending on year, the unused RCA plugs in the console are used to get image and picture to the screen. The camera itself is powered by the backup lights.

There is some only slightly tricky work required to keep the factory display on when the car is moving. This requires pulling some things from the center of the dashboard and grounding and/or clipping wires. Search UTube for examples. An example for any Nissan or Infiniti from that period will have a similar wiring situation.
