Hey guys,I got my car early this year and I have lots of projects I want to do.Wondering if anyone has done any of these in the past??

Update the Firmware of my Nav system.Remote window rollup. (purchased module)Remote Start on manual pushbuttonstart.Install mac mini with touch screen feedback.Interfaced the CANBUS of the car.Send custom messages to the dash board from my radar detector.Take apart the dash?Auto Turn Off for traction control. (purchased module)

I guess I'm just looking for a forum where people of like minds can help me with some of these projects. I have a good EE background and can do them, its specifically with the car that I would like help.

Let me know if anyone is up for the challenge of offering advice to some of these?

The first thing I'm going to do is get a CANBUS reader.Does anyone know the nearest CANBUS interface inside the cabin?

Thanks for any help,-Sean

The Nav map update (if that is what you mean by firmware) is $195 plus install.

I would not do the remote start as this would involve leaving your key fob in the car or bypassing that part altogether. Replacing the BCM could be a very expensive result of not doing this exactly right.

I would tend to lean towards a PC for a carputer versus a Mac Mini.

If you mean interfacing with the CANBUS using OBD-II then you can connect to the connector located directly below the steering wheel on the bottom of your pod.

This allows you to read various codes and things like fuel use, water temperature, and so on.

I use a Scan Gauge for that but you may want to look into the Dash Dyno, the Dash Daq, the Watchdog, just to mention a few OBD-II gauge type units. Reading the Can Bus however is another animal. I like the Scan Gauge size wise but is is a little bit more limited in functions compared to some of the others but can do much more than what you may be led to believe if you experiment figuring up what may be available to read and how to send messages to access them.

As far as taking apart the dash I was wondering if the dash pod from a 370z can replace the pod on the Infiniti? Not sure I would want to do this but it would be an unique mod that I haven't seen done.

What I am looking at though is a heads up display. Basically by steeling the recessed area now occupied by the center speaker you would point a high powered Led display up towards the windshield in a similar fashion as done on vettes. There is currently a couple of modules for this, one is a GPS.

Since the combo meter in the dash is connected via Can it would be a challenge to send messages to it from a radar detector, probably easier to the nav display. I would consider that, or the mirror, or building a heads up unit instead.

Agreed .. totally not worth it unless he lives in a brand new city that was not on the map when he bought his car.

For sure, the 370Z center stack will not bolt into a late model G. A lot of custom work would be needed. I assume the same is true for the gage pod?

I don't know about the gauge pod, was looking at it but without a 'G' sitting next to it not sure about size, etc. It does seem reasonable that the electronics behind it may simply be different in how it is packaged. Also just today read that the 2010 'G' has a slightly different pod.

I am in this line as well, is it worth it? Problem I have is that the map was out of date when it came out but two years in some cases in the area I spend a lot of time Olympia/Lacey. Besides just things like turnabouts there are housing projects, banks, you name it that are not shown on the map but were there as long ago as 4 years. I find myself driving right across grassy fields on the map all the time.

Frankly I think they should give you several updates rather than charging a couple of hundred bucks for the update and then maybe additional funds to install since it is done by Consult from what I can gather.
