I've owned my G37S for a year now and from day one I've had an issue with my Auto stick (triptronic). If I slow down to 20 MPH and approximately 1500 RPM and attempt to down shift to 2nd gear I have no acceleration for approximately 3-5 seconds. Infiniti is telling me there is nothing wrong with my car and nobody else is complaining. I am an accomplised speedster who has had training at competitve driving. I also owned an 2004 Acura TL with none of these issues. Any thoughts?

you need to keep driving your car hard then the ecu will learn and you should be able to take off immediatly after. its normal.

I never had issue with it. It shifts like no tomorrow. I am happy how my G shifts. Even with slow driving the TCU should be faster. Do you have any video?

I have an 05 Coupe and I have the same issue when shifting from 2 to 1, serious lag time. but it only happens when I am slowing down then trying to gun it again as if rolling up to a stop light. If I down shift like for a curve while maintaing speed it goes right away. Not real sure why it does this prob has something to do with the valve body and the way it was desinged to work, more for comfort and not neck snapping acceleration.

I mentioned this once before, but maybe it enters into this. I would not say a 3 second or so delay, but in my 08 sedan I see this:

I approach a roundabout and enter at 20 mph. If I don't manually downshift it will often do so on its own with a similar effect as if I do so manually. When in the roundabout for a split second it will almost feel like I am freewheeling, like I am in neutral. If I press on the gas, it seems like the engine will speed up and then the transmission will fully engage with a mild jerk.

I rarely notice this in any other case. But 20 mph slowing down and then attempting to speed up and this is what I see. If going 20 mph for awhile and then I press on the gas, it will simply speed away, nice and smooth.

I don't worry about it as to me it simply seems to be 'the nature of the beast' and all beasts have their nature.

I've noticed that mine does this from time to time when downshifting. I always just assumed that I hit it like right inbetween shifts so it didn't know what to do. Mine's stored for the winter so I haven't driven it in awhile but if I remember correctly, it does it and the gear indicator will show 3rd and then 1st. So is it really skipping 2nd gear in the downshift? This could also be why.

Engine learning will play a partial role in this. Also realize, that the transmission will likely not let you shift into 1st until you've come to a complete stop. This is the case with many manual transmissions and I assume it should hold true for the autos as well.

My experience with Nissan Transmissions is that they have a definitive lag before downshifting. The 07/08 G35 Sedans seemed to be much better, but the time taken to disengage the torque converter, rev match, then reengage was still slow to me.

I'm surprised that smocker's Grounding Gear kit didn't solve this problem. Most of my customers have reduce manual mod lag significantly.

OP,

You might ask the dealership to reset your parameters once your break-in is complete. During break-in we're told to "baby" the car, then we're basically stuck with an unresponsive (yet fuel economic) sports coupe/sedan. Reseting the parameters can really make the car come alive after babying it for a long duration.

My transmission never really lags. It's just that I notice on mine, under specific braking conditions, that the indicator jumps from 3rd to 1st, never hitting 2nd on the dash. It's hard to repeat the lag. If the transmission really is "skipping" 2nd on its way down, this could be the possibility as it is caught inbetween shifts. I get mine to occur if I hit the brakes relatively hard for a quick stop, but not stop completely and take off fast because I was mad for whatever reason I had to slow down for. But even then it doesn't do it all the time.

Welcome to Nico!

Acuras automatically shift to second when they feel like it so they are not without quirks.

I know what you are talking about and it is designed to act that way to keep you from breaking the automatic transmission.

Here is a segment from the owners manual, the bottom right notes this.
