My 09 G37 XS runs great in sun, rain, and very cold temps, but if I drive in snow it "chokes down" and losses all power. The only fix is to shut it off and sit for 30 minutes. Dealer found a general electronics error message but can not isolate it. I wonder if there is an electronic incompatability problem with the AWD and Sport electronics. Any ideas?

Welcome to NICO! Very strange problem...are you sure it's not the VDC kicking in? Try to turn it off.

You can also look at the FSM (link in my sig) for more info.

I tried turning off the VDC and the snow setting.

That will most likely cause more of a problem than it will possibly resolve. Unfortunately there are not too many things that can be done with the information you have provided. This type of issue is hard to isolate if there are no relevant faults to point a tech in specific direction. If they are unable to verify the concern there is very little they can do their hands are pretty much tied.

Are there any warnings or other indicators that go off on the dash when the car is acting up?
What exactly happens when the car stops on you.

^^^ what he said

From an owners perspective it can be quite frustrating when you experience a problem yet can't get it to happen with the dealer. I just had my car in the shop for "final" warranty work and none of the stuff I wanted fixed was fixed. On the way to the dealer I had lots of squeaking going on in the gauge pod and I could hear it in the passenger door too. I was in a hurry to get to a customer meeting and did not wait around to take a tech to go on a drive with me. Of course, when they drove it they didn't hear it. I went back the next day and took them for a ride....sure enough, the car was as quiet as the day it was purchased. Not their fault. I'll just hope I can get it out there sometime when it's happening within the next couple months before the B-B expires. Problem is, it does not happen that often.

the sport package for the X just adds appearance items, like unique spoliers, badging, paddle shifters, different front seats, and bigger rims. Should give you quicker steering and upgraded brakes for the 2011+ X models also. But the engine and transmission is the same Sport or non-Sport. So i highly doubt something is incompatable with the AWD system. The AWD system is routed through the VDC system based on the diagrams ive seen, but like the ABS, the AWD works independent of the VDC when "VDC is OFF".

I had a simular thought as you, wondering if the VDC counter acted the AWD system by cutting power instead of trying to shift power first with the AWD system. I think i even have a post where i asked this question on these forums... found it... vdc-on-a-g35x-is-it-with-or-against-the ... ?hilit=VDC Here is a quote from the post:

"Ohhhhh ok the awd is an input to the vdc system! now it makes sense... VDC is Top Dog as everything comes through it. That means when its off each system is independant and doesnt have its Captain VDC..."

so my guess, is the VDC is kicking in extra hard for some reason. If you are getting a AWD light, the transfer case has over heated, which points to why you have to let the car cool for 30 mins. Ive owned two X model Gs, experimented a lot lol and have never gotten the car to overheat the transfer case, which i suspect is going on.
