The M3 is a fantastic car - same interior as the 335i with slightly different trim. Maintenance will be higher (more expensive brake disks, everything else on the engine). Performance will be slightly better but the 335 is extremely quick - you will have a hard time telling the difference. If you are looking at the M3, I've seen 2008 M5's for 48K with 18k miles - thats a 10 cylinder engine - beautiful with insane maintenance once you are out of warrantee. I can't imagine you'd want the Pontiac if you are serious about the M3 - or the Audi S4 or 335i for that matter. If you are looking at the M3 seriously you should also look at AMG Merc's. You can't mod up the 8 cyl in the M3 the way you can the S4 or 335i. Note that S4's from 2008 back were the 8 cyl with no forced induction. The older 2.7T turbo S4's could be software upped to over 350hp and I'd expect people are doing the same for the newer 3.0T (supercharged) engine.

Still love the M3...not much talk about that car for some reason. However, the car that's been on my mind is the G8 GXP. Same power as the M3, but for about half the price! Yes it wont handle on a track as well, but I don't see myself going to any tracks with my dd. I'm just concerned about the whole GM thing of killing Pontiac...

Not a fan of styling on either car.

It does seem confusing to have a comparison between those cars...I know. I guess I'm attracted to the GXP because it has the same power as the M3, but for about half the cost. Will it outperform the M3, not a chance. However, I really don't "need" that level of corner carving performance. The V8 in the GXP is the same engine that's in the base corvette. The only problem is that car has a little over 1800 made for its one and only year of production. About half were manual...finding one will be tough. In fact, no new models in the GM system according to a local dealer.

The Audi is not cheap...they seem to hold their value better than BMW. (according to autotrader searches) Though with that car, I'm heading for more of a status symbol then the raw power I crave.

The G37 certainly has not "lost". I'm just not sure I want basically the same car I have now...

The 2.5 liter turbo has a 6-speed manual. If you want an automatic, there is a 3.6 liter flat six that makes 256 hp. It runs on regular gas, too.

From what I have read, the Limited models have a better suspension than the others.

We have a 12 year old Legacy wagon with the 2.5 liter, 165 hp engine. (That was the most powerful engine at the time.) It just passed 195k miles and I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts another 100k.

The G37 is actually quite different from the G35 you have. It really is "all-new" As 92% of the vehicle is completely different/new/redesigned. It was a perfect evolution of the previous generation. Everything stepped up. But then, if you pick the G, we won't feel betrayed...

I just wish Infiniti/Nissan would include a V8 as an option or another trim. I really want 400hp!

I believe they are still "working" on the G50/G56 thing. I don't know if it will happen though. I wish...

Including weight...

I've been a long time Nissan/Infiniti lover, but my G35 has lost that love. Too many PITA problems. Like now I have to go fix the seatbelt sensor on the driver's side because the sensor wire isn't long enough to allow the latch to stay in the upright position which means I can have the seatbelt in the latch, but the light will still come on.

Keep waiting... I got mine for $32K flat. It's got prem/nav and sticker was $39,405. The deal I got on my 09 sedan was also a month ago... when it was still 09. You should be able to get a loaded 09 G sedan for $31,XXX now.

Also, check around to see what kind of financing you can get on your own. You'll likely find a deal nearly as good as the incentive. A lot of banks are in the 4-5% range for new car loans now as long as your credit is good.

I'm looking for a fully loaded vehicle...the wife doesn't think we need NAV, and she's right. But, I'd like to have it because I'm a geek. Anyway, I need to do more research on the car...not sure what's missing if I don't get NAV.

I have narrowed it down between black, red or blue exterior colors with graphite interior.

No white? LOL

I love my blue color. It is kind of weird. It's like having a car with 3 different color. When it is darker looks like black. When cloudy it does look dark blue and in sunlight it loos either lighter metallic blue or if you are in the right angle with the sun it looks little purplish.

However I think the sedan looks really good in black and white. Those are my 2 favorites. Both with tint.

Joe why not to get an 07 and put a TT set up on it? You'll end up with pretty much the same $$ and you'll have your dream 400 ponies and some. You can beat the 335i with jb3.Who says reality and dream can't be achived at the same time?

Now you just have to sell it to your wife why the 500hp needed. LOL There is always some good excuse like you heard there were few kidnapping incidents around your area and kids were taken from some slow luxury cars. The kidnappers pulled right beside the driving moms and forced them to pull over. Now if you have a car like that she can floor it and leave the kidnappers in the dust. I am sure she'll go for the TT set up. LOL

As usuall being useless and just kidding.

Sorry

good info Gabe! I'm looking to get a new '37...but I have thought about modding an older '35. No way the wife will let me do that though...

So...you're gonna run around town with a +400HP with a newborn baby in the back!?!? OMG! Somebody call the cops!

Actually, I'd be a little more scared about the little 'mess maker' when you have to be driving, and have NO CONTROL of what is in their mouths, or what comes out of their mouth and on to the nice seating area. Yeah, sure...newborns are fairly hassle free...but those little cuties turn into car interior destructors!! They simply have zero respect for your car! Buy an old Camry or similar car (not too old mind you...within 5 years or so), and then with the money you saved, you can buy an R1/Aprilia/Ducati, and completely absolutely destroy just about every street legal car in the land. I love my G37, but when I don't have to chauffeur my kids anywhere, or just commuting to work & stuff, and it's relatively nice weather (I know...a lot of 'if's), then it's all about me and my bike! AND...you're in GA....I have to deal with snow & below freezing temps for weeks at a time in my CO winter, what does 'winter' consist of in the south? Besides, make the wife take the newbie to daycare, and then you don't even have to drive it all that much anyway.

Just a thought from a father of 4 and proud poppa of my 2001 FZ1 (R1 sister bike) ...and of course proud daddy to my G37xs!

The car is mainly for my commute to work. But we'd also like to have a backup vehicle that my wife can drive confidently.

I'm deep into price negotiations with a few dealers on a loaded 09 G37...depends on what they offer for my 05.

Joe the G25 with turbo will come next year. Around maybe 270-280hp to compete with 328. So I assume the g37 will go up a little with hp. Maybe 350 ish to keep the distance. Of course the 2.5t will need a little chip and get the hp of the 37 and probably less weight.

I still think that the G8 is a great choice... I have looked into them myself....

I took one for a drive about 6 months ago and loved it.

It was the GXP auto and that motor just makes so much tq! at 70 miles per hour i think the rpm's was at about 1700... It was barley idling lol

They are good on gas if you are light on your foot... Something like 26 mpg hwy...

Just got back from the local Infiniti dealer and talked to one of the salesmen that I've known for a while. Looks like the best they can do is $3,000 below invoice.Sat in a 2010 G37 Sedan and it was nice, but not enough to pass up deals on a 2009!!!!

Just got back from the dealer...they looked at my 05 and I test drove an 09 G37S. Love the car, hate the dealer...I told them the options I wanted (loaded), and they e-mailed me a quote with a car missing the sport option! (about 2100). Not a good experience all together. I have a few people interested in the car, so we'll see if it can pan out without trading.

Joe, I got my G37x in June and love it. I have a 4 year old and needed a sedan for my daughter. I love Audi and had an A6 which I loved and still miss. Unlike many others, I never had any problems with mine but did get rid of it once it was out of warranty. I looked at the A4 when I was shopping for my latest car and ruled it out because it was really small inside and the A4 has terrible turbo lag (IMHO). The S will have the performance you want, but I think it's too small inside. Same with the Lexus IS, really small but a fun little rice rocket, not sure it's the "family" car you're looking for. I like bimmers but wasn't lured in enough because of the sticker shock so I can't comment on them. Cadillac left me cold. I really tried to find something american, but there was too much plastic and not enough heart. BTW, one thing to consider is the NAV system. I had an Acura TL before the G and I have to say that the Infiniti NAV is the one (only?) thing I don't like about the G. Infiniti locks you out of most of the controls of the NAV and integrated phone system when the car is in motion, bottom line is you can't really interact with the expensive NAV while you're driving. Drives me nuts! Honda doesn't lock you out and I really miss it (at least my wife has an MDX which provides a little relief). The performance of the G is amzing. I have to admit that I didn't want the "x" all wheel drive, but when it was time to purchase it was the only one that had the colors/finishes/options I wanted so I got the all wheel drive. As a family sedan I'm glad I have the all wheel drive. With 328hp the all wheel drive provides the stability I want for a family car. Don't know where you live but here in Virginia I've heard that the cops will escalate speeding to "reckless" if you have a child in the back seat, so be careful. Making the transition from "your" car to a "family" car involves a lot of changes, but doesn't mean you have to stop having fun. Good luck!

Great car, they are everywhere here in Oz (I find it pretty funny to see all the 'American' car references).

Very, very different to a G coupe though.

I'm pretty sure that you can modify the system to let you use it while in motion...I'll have to look up whats needed.

I drove an EX35 last week - dealers are really willing to make deals on the new 2010's. I think you can get 6K of list - probably 2500-3000 below invoice. My wife is looking at a replacement for her X3 which will either be her X3 again, an Audi Q5, or possibly the EX35. She doesn't like the Infiniti brand but really enjoyed driving the EX35 - she's having a hard time convincing herself she prefers the X3. The tech on the EX35 is very nice. I'd like her to look at a G37X if she's willing to sit a little closer to the ground. She previously complained that she originally wanted a sedan but bought the current X3 to make me happy - when she drove an A4 the other day she concluded she's been spoiled and wants a bigger interior. EX35 feels like a SUV - but drives a lot more like a performance sedan. I'd take a look if you are looking at practicality but want to keep some fun.

Just a little input here on young'ens and cars. I raised 2 and they were in my car almost all the time. They were never allowed food or drinks in my car or crayons or anything like that. They never minded it because they never knew any different. They have both grown up to be car fanatics too, so they weren't scarred by it. Just because you have children doesn't mean your car has to be trashed.

Remember also, you will get more money for your car when you trade it in for having that package, so you might as well go on and enjoy it. I would imagine pretty soon that a luxury car without that kind of technology might be hard to sell.
