My experience was, I went to cars.com and asked for quotes from 3 dealers. My stipulations were:1. Initial offer of $1K over invoice (yes, I know. And I should have set $100 UNDER MSRP but oh well.)2. No dealer add-ons such as Lo-Jack, 3M bra, whatever.3. No non-refundable deposits.

I got 2 polite responses declining my price offer but wanting to speak with me over what else they could do.

Dealer #3 sent me a one-line response of "HAHAHAHAHAHA See you in 1-2 years!", the person did NOT sign the email or otherwise say anything constructive.

What's funny is, for how 'hot' this car supposedly is, the dealer I purchased from has 11 G37s on their lot as of today (according to their inventory online, which so far has been accurate and updated frequently).
One word--patience. If you have to be among the first to get this (or any new car) then you can't complain about paying the price. With situations like this (with a new model or newly updated model) I have NEVER seen in instance where prices are any higher after the first few months--more likely they will be lower.

Vettes can frequently be a steal, especially towards the end of the year and if word has gotten out about the improvements in the upcoming model.

Don't jump the gun just yet on the G37. There are soo many options at that price range. I would rather get a 5series.

If you want a real sports car, get a Corvette. The G37 is pretty slow. Not much faster then a G35. And a G35 is slower then the S2k.

Think about it.

No complaints here. I understand the "pay to play" rule, and abide by it I didn't intentionally head out to be the first on my block with a G37, things just played out that way. No complaints about the car, and paying MSRP obviously didn't stop me.

I observed what you said re: the Vettes, at the local dealer. Lots of incentives to move the 2007's.

A 5-series starts around $44K for the 528 (230 hp). I'd think you'd want to compare the 535, which costs much more.

Comparing the G35 to an S2K is apples vs oranges. More weight in the G35, more space too. S2K is a tight fit, seats 2 only, digital speedo for better or worse (not a fan). You have to wind out the engine in the S2K to get the torque, though.

I will agree there are lots of options in the price range, though. For roughly $42,500 or less I found:- 2006 Porsche Boxter, new on the showroom floor (MSRP $53K). - 2008 Audi TT 2.0T with DSG (coupe or roadster can be had for less than $42K depending on options)- G37- 2007 Vette (can be found for roughly $4K off MSRP before haggling)- 350Z- 335i sedan

Regarding the Vette, from what I understand the manual transmission has some sort of interlock that occurs at less-than-spirited driving, where the transmission forces a 1-4 gear upshift. This is carried over to the 2008 model, according to what I've read.

The 5 series is a four door sedan (look closely and you'll see rear doors on both sides). The G37 is a two door coupe. It seems this thread is comparing two door cars. Why would someone throw a four door sedan into the discussion?

Nope. I just read an article stating that the LS3 vette will NOT have the skipshift or whatever you want to call it.

This statement is waaay too broad to even approach being correct. It depends on what you are looking for. The vette will absolutely own the G in performance and performance potential. It is not even close. Plus, it still gets 28ish mpg (which by the way is better than the G's estimated 26 w/6mt and 24 w/auto). The G is a luxury car... 'entry' level, but still luxury. Having sat in Gs and BMWs and Acuras and Lexus, generally Infiniti doesn't quite keep up with those cars. Generally the fit and finish and quality of both build and materials is better in BMW, Lexus, and Acura. That begs the question then, if you are buying the G for luxury, why not look at a 335i more seriously? I just saw a blip in Road and Track where Vishnu sells a quick upgrade for the 335i (its a stand alone processor and exhaust) that boosts output to 340hp and 400ft lbs, taking 1/2 second of the 1/4 mile.I'm not saying I don't like the G, because I do; but you can't just say it is ab etter buy. It totally depends on what you are looking for. The G splits the difference fairly evenly between performance and luxury, but other cars do that as well (as I mentioned the 335i, the new m3 will do it as well, but that is substantially more $).

Over in the corvette forums a guy that took delivery of his 2008 said one of the first things he was going to do was eliminate the skipshift...

Could be a running change?

If luxury itself was the number 1 priority then you would not be looking at the exterior nor performance numbers at all. For that matter, a sedan would be the choice vehicle instead of a coupe.

As you stated, people are looking for different things. Regardless of the interior not quite being "up to" the higher-end luxury levels, the price point and quality that is there is much liked. I'm one of those people. While the 335i is a nice vehicle, it's not something I personally want as I find it relatively boring in comparison (other than performance). I like the styling and "complete package" of the G37 product. Sure, it may not have the best interior and may not be the best performer......I like what I see and what I drove. Works for me
