1. The dealership serviced my AT 2008 G37 during the 60,000 mile maintenance (5 QT - Matic S Auto). I just looked at my transmission dipstick and it shows there is twice as much transmission oil than there should be. WTF?
2. Plus, the oil has a solvent, brake or choke cleaner smell, it is a clearish/yellowish color.

I am totally scared about what to do.

I have an appt Monday to have the transmission serviced @ 130,000 miles by an independent mechanic, he is going to replace the filter, gasket and fluid. I am thinking about just doing a drain and fill myself! I just noticed tonight when he changed my motor oil he put 5/20 synthetic blend in my car.

I've read the posts on transmission servicing but none cover these two issues (smell and overfilled). I haven't had any problems except recently it seems to have a slow shift.

Thanks for any advice, Linda

Hi Linda, welcome aboard!

Genuine Nissan Fluid (999MP-MTS00P) Nissan Matic-S should be red, so it should look pink on a white dipstick wiper.

Did you check the fluid with the car level, in Park, idling, and warm?

No I didn't look at it while idling or warm. I will buy some lint free paper and do it today. Should it still be pink after all these years? I canceled the appointment I had on Monday, gut feeling.

Thanks, Linda

60k miles on ATF isn't a lot. In fact, I think the 09 G was a sealed transmission.

You have to check the fluid correctly to get an accurate reading. The smell is still a concern, but a fluid change isn't going to hurt anything.

Well I can't find the transmission dipstick and can't get ahold of the guy who checked it. Trying to track him down now.

I believe if your vehicle has the 5 speed AT, then there is a dipstick. The dipstick should be behind the engine, slightly towards the passenger's side, near the firewall. You should see the tranny tube sticking up. You'll have to remove the 10mm bolt securing the dipstick.

If you do not see the tube then it's as AZhitman said, it's a sealed tranny, and would need to be checked by a qualified technician.

Yes, I found it but there was not a 10mm bolt. The transmission fluid went all the way past the dip on the dipstick. It doesn't look burnt but not pink, a light tan color.
