Post

I just leased a new G37 Journey with the "Premium" and "Performance Tire and Wheel" packages.

I am concerned about the transmission. I am not a car enthusiast but the G37 does not feel like a 3.7-liter 328-hp car. My previous car was a 2004 Acura TL.

When compared to the 2004 Acura TL, I found the G37 relatively slow to accelerate as if the car has to overcome some kind of resistance when I push on the accelerator.

I also found that the G37 does not keep the momentum as well as the Acura TL when I release the accelerator pedal. I am not knowledgeable about cars but it appears to me as if the transmission downshifts enough to hold the car from keeping its momentum. I tried another G37 and had the same experience.

Is this a typical behavior for G37? Am I facing "break-in" period or adaptive transmission control issues? The car had 13 miles when I took it from the dealer.

I would appreciate your comments.

I doubt that the 0-60 times would hold this to be true. It is a heavy car so just maybe for a brief second or two it could be slower. I believe it is one of perception however. If you are at 13 miles then the transmission has not had enough time to learn your driving habits. That said I didn't see if you were driving in D or DS mode. I find mine in DS mode to tend to downshift at slightly odd times and hold on sometimes longer then what I would consider normal on the upshifts.

I am assuming you are leasing a couple, mine is an 08 XS.

The 3.7 has 1000 more revs in it than the TL, and the TL may have felt that way because its fwd. Drive it in sport mode for a few days, making shifts yourself, so the tcm will learn how you drive. It will remember, and try to please you. Some transmission's on other cars go into a neutral state when in a deccel mode, but the G transmission likes to be ready for anything. It is a ninja soldier awaiting your command at every second. Even when you turn it off....

Thank you for your replies.

The car now has 105 miles. I first ran it on "D" mode and today switched to "DS" mode.

The acceleration improved on "DS" mode but in both modes the car has a noticeably more pronounced deacceleration around 20 mph that feels as if the transmission is holding the car from keeping its normal momentum.

When the car concludes the break-in period I am having the ECM and TCM reset.

You are still in the break in period til you hit 1000 miles. Be gentle until then. At that point, feel free to let the engine breathe.
