Damn I have 18 months left on my G37 lease and presently I hate this vehicle as it's worthless in SNOW. I got stranded 3 times yesterday in MI snow and what's with the damn slip mode that cuts the friggin engine power and thus if you get in a rut you are stuck there and damn well better carry a shovel with you. Owned a Beamer 3 series that sailed through the snow and never shut the damn power down and prevented any traction at all. Lived in MI 58 years and never been stranded and stuck 3 times in one day. My wife sailed to work and back in her 2008 Accord Coupe without a single problem.

It's also where I got stuck at one place - in the middle of a 50MPH intersection and it took me three lights to cross it and then I ran some red lights when no traffic was coming for fear of being stuck again in the middle of the intersections. Whoever designed this traction controlled did not live in a snow region as it's simply is polar opposite as it actually inhibits traction - it doesn't facilitate it as my BMW did.

This car at this point is useless in SNOW and now I must fork over about $1200 for Blizzacks on a damn Lease Car because the friggin SLIP invokes at assinine times - been driving sport coupes for decades and never had one pull this crap in SNOW. Is there any damn way to turn it off? Love the looks and many features but presently I hate it's function or lack thereof in SNOW!!!

If anyone viewing this is shopping for a G37 and you live in a snow belt better invest in Blizzacks and carry a good shovel and pray your not disabled - your life could be at risk in this vehicle!

Do you have the G37s with factory RE050a's?

Hey, hey, hey. Learn how to drive in the snow first, that's the problem with you trolls . I was driving my coupe around Ann Arbor yesterday with 2/32 left on the rears and I did fine, only got stuck once because the intersection was filled with crud and I was turning uphill. I was even passing other people, with a RWD sports car, with bad tires. We got 8" over here and the city has no freakin' clue how to plow.

There's the VDC Off button, turn that off. It'll cut power initially, but it will continue to allow the wheels to spin if you give it enough gas. Only turn it off when you are first starting, say from a parking spot or an intersection. Try not to leave it off in bad conditions.

Tomorrow, I'm driving my coupe up to the UP in what's supposed to be snow almost all the way with the same tires. I'm confident that I will have little to no problems getting up there. Plus, I'm kinda glad I'm going up there where people know how to drive, especially in the snow.

People in SE MI need to learn how to drive, seriously. You all freak out when it snows and/or continue to use the same driving techniques from summer. On the freeways, you all immediately slow down to 45 or under, regardless if there is snow on the road or not. You people have lived here long enough and you see snow every year, you should be used to it and know how to drive in it by now.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just a Yooper frustrated with a lot of people I don't know who are behind the wheel and shouldn't be, say 75% of SE MI when it snows.

I've driven quite a bit in the snow and will not try it with the RE050a summer tires on. I drive the Maxima instead as it has decent all-seasons.

Just for clarification for those out-of-state, my use of the word troll doesn't mean an Internet troll. Michigan has sectarian violence between its two peoples, yoopers and trolls.

I don't think the BMW would go any better with summer tires on.

Summer tires for summers only. In winter you need winter sets especially if you have RWD cars.

So is it the car?

If you buy a car you have to maintain them. If you drive it in snow you need to get snow tires.

I got stuck pulling into my driveway last night because my kid didn't see the need to shovel the WHOLE drive to the street. I hate my summer tires on the ice but then again........... Once they heat up they are fine, but just starting in the morning is a PITA. I love the traction control on this thing. It keeps me outta trouble and works well, last time I turned it off for fun I looped 'er right in front of a cop! He just laughed at me and said to park the sports car! I said "ok, I'll pull out the high powered Chevelle instead", He laughed again and asked if I wanted him to call a taxi for me.

LOL

hahahaha

At least you know there is nothing wrong with your car. It is just your tire.

Some cops are awesome just like you've found one.

Welcome to NICO. I would first suggest that you learn more about your car before you just decide to hate it. Ignorance usually breads hate and unfortunately, that's your case.

Right above your left kneed, there should be a VDC button. The VDC is automatically On. Pressing the little button will turn it off. You might think that it's much better to drive with VDC off all of the time, but I suggest you try driving with it on and off in an empty parking lot to see and understand the difference.

Also, the Gs usually come with extreme performance summer tires. The things barely work in rain let alone snow. This is something you should have looked into when buying the car (especially if you know it snows in your area).

I won't drive my G35 into the mountains, because I know my tires will slip and I'll go flying off a cliff. Know your car and it's limitation and YOUR limitations.

i live in northern Jersey and was stuck on the highway with inclines and declines, took me 7 hrs to travel an hour of highway all because I had the summer tires on and there's a few inches of snow. those potenza re50a is useless in snow, let alone the staggered setup makes it slip even more. I learned how to drive it that day. to keep the front wheels aligned with the rears at all times to prevent spinout and to drive <15 mph to maintain control until you see black top again and make sure there's no black ice. but after I spent $900 for set of A/Ss, it's alot better, I'm not scared of the temp gauge reading < 32 degrees anymore.

I can't imagine driving a real wheel car in Northern climates. I have the G35x and this baby is a snow killer. Only car that ever drove better was my 00 Grand Cherokee. This didn't have the stability control though like the G. ..Lived in Wisconsin my whole life, and we know better here. I don't even like driving my 97 Maxima which is fwd as you know. 4matics, quattro, Bmw x, these are the only sport cars you should be driving in the winter.

I would suggest that all of you complaining about driving in the snow go read this thread on just how to drive in the snow.

Given the fact your located basically in the tundra it probably would have been smart to purchase a car without extremely high performance summer tires and expect them to perform differently. Personally I am located in the Chicago area and use Blizaaks and have no problems whatsoever... My recc. either learn to turn the VDC off or purchase some winter wheels/tires. I bought a used set for only 500 dollars. Good luck.

Who's in the tundra? Us here in SE Michigan? SE Michigan is a joke when it comes to winter in this state. For the few times that it snows in Chicago, Blizzaks may be overkill, but you'll need them today, that's for sure.

smockers83, well its usually the case here in Chicago but things sure are different this year.. I thought winters were much worse in MI. I guess it depends on location..

Yeah, the metro Detroit area is nothing special when it comes to winter except for its drivers, they are truly special. Grand Rapids is a little different, as is anything along L. Michigan. As you head further north, winter gets progressively worse. But then again, I grew up way up north along L. Superior so winter here in the Detroit area is a joke to me. It kinda works though because then I can use the snow as an excuse here to get out of stuff that I don't want to do, whereas if I were up north, it wouldn't fly.
