There is a rapid lite puff noise that I hear in the cabin while I idle that started after replacing the battery. A mechanic said it was my Y-Pipe. He showed me the pipe had braided stainless flex sections about 7 inches that was damaged from rubbing against tall speed bumps, etc. (the G sits low). He told me to buy one he would install it.

* What do I need to know in replacing the Y-pipe?
* I have noticed the Y-Pipes online do not have the same length of the braided stainless flex sections, does this matter?
* Would a muffler shop be better to do the repair?

Thanks, G

Great question.

Not much to know - it's simply a downpipe.

The length of the braided section isn't terribly relevant, it's just there to absorb tiny flexion from engine movement.

I'd recommend a muffler shop - They'll probably have a flex section they can weld in, rather than replacing the downpipe.

You probably already know this, but maybe raising her up 1/2" wouldn't be a bad idea. :)
