Post

Hi, everyone. I'm a newbie. I'm leasing a 2005 G35 Coupe / Auto / Sport Suspension. I average about 24k miles annually, mostly business, and I'm glad to be here. I'm already planning on moving out of my coupe and into the sedan in the fall and my salesman let it leak out that they may be moving the 3.7 into the sedan for '09. How close is this to fruition? Thanks!

A G37 sedan would likely have better acceleration and stopping power than its G37 coupe sibling. Considering the G37 coupe is already 200lbs heavier than its G35 sibling. Currently, I think I read that they're about equal in those two performance aspects. I wonder what performance purists will say if the sedan goes 3.7 liter. Although the coupe should still marginally beat it in handling.

According to the Infiniti web site, trunk capacity for the G35 sedan is 13.5 cu ft. The G35 sedan is a little lighter than the G37 coupe, but has a bit less power. Gas mileage is about the same for both. The G37 is an evolutionary development of the G35 coupe, not a radical redesign. I would expect a G37 sedan would compare to a G35 sedan the way the present G37 compares to the G35 coupe.

That's a reasonable inference, except that the current-generation G35 sedan already went through it's "evolutionary development" in the 2007 model year. If the G35 sedan were to be upgraded to 3.7 liter, one could reasonably infer that the G37 coupe would soon be bored out to 3.9 liter.

Although, Infiniti could also just release a G37 sedan to bring them up to par in "the numbers" and stop there until the next "evolutionary development."

I doubt they will increase the engine beyond 3.7 liters. Look at how long it stayed at 3.0 before going to 3.5. They also have a 7AT that they are putting in the FX50. The literature says that the FX will also get the 3.7 and the 7AT. I'll bet the 09 G sedan is a 37 with the 7AT.

My money is on the G coupe offering a 5.0 before it ever goes beyond 3.7.Imagine the G50 and you'll see what I mean.
