Hello all,
first time on the forum, I have a 2009 G37 with 15000, Its due the oil change and I think the brakes are squeaking, I want to take it to my mechanic because I know the dealership will charge me an arm and a leg. I had a Jaguar X type and I use to buy the brake pads on ebay and never had a problem, anyone can recommend brake pads?

Welcome aboard!

"Never had a problem" doesn't mean much. Cheap pads are usually inferior compounds, which translate to increased stopping distances in a panic stop.

I don't know about you, but an extra 6-10 feet of stopping distance from 60mph is the difference between stopping well short of hitting something, or plowing a 6-10 foot hole in someone else's car. Saving a few bucks doesn't look like such a great idea in that case.

With that said, not all "good" pads are terribly expensive. For the G, I really, really like the Ferodo DS2500 pads. Steer clear of anything that advertises "low dust" or "long life" - Those are great for people who don't plan to rely on their brakes to stop their car in an emergency. ;)

You can have the dealer look at it since you're doing the 15K service and get an estimate. Since you're still under warranty with low miles they may rectify the issue with no cost to you. Sometimes there are TSBs issued for brakes that are covered under warranty so try them first. My previous car had severly warped rotors and low pads also around 15k and the dealer replaced everything for free. Called it "premature wear".

There's really no set interval to replace brakes. It's dependent on your driving habit. The standard industry warranty on pads is 12 months/12k miles or they will replace them for free. If you're a heavy braker or you ride the brakes you could just get the bare minimum. If you're light on the brakes or you downshift and use the engine to assist braking you could in theory extend the life of your pads 2x - 5x the standard life. The pad material also plays a role too in brake life.

I have run two different types of Project MU pads, NS street pads & B force pads. They both were low dust and stopped 100x better than oem and the B force pads were used at the track this year for the Nissan Convention and they never faded or gave any indication they would not be reliable. So for street purpose, they are low dust and would provide one hell of a panic stop. There is still well over half the pad life left on them after 2 track days and hard braking from 115+mph.

I do a lot of downshifting and replaced my pads at 85k miles

We're talking about the G sedan, not your Jazzy Scooter. ;)

I have only had my G 2 years and I have had to get pads 3x and rotors once. I had to get them resurfaced once during that time as well. I went to the dealership everytime for the pads. The rotors havent arrived yet, but I got them from frozen rotors. I only drive my car 7 months a year, but I drive it quite a bit during that time. My commute to my off season job is a few hours.
