First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Max I am 17 years old and currently drive a '07 VW Jetta. About 2 months ago i was t-boned and my car has given me problems ever since. (Backfiring, suspension popping around every corner, O2 sensor messing up...) I'm planning on trading in my Jetta (maybe getting 15-16g?) and I'm getting roughly another 16g from my injuries.

So my question to you all is: What is the lowest price you got your dealer to? I'm not looking for a fully loaded G, just a base. Or maybe even a base 37s. Any numbers would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to NICO!

Sorry to hear what happened and I'm glad your ok. I am a Canuck so our prices here are MUCH higher. Some other boys will chime in... but, if you do a quick search, there was a whole 2-3 page thread where members posted how much they bought their G37's for.

Thanks for the warm welcome.I've searched "prices, g37 prices, dealership prices, dealer prices" and still have come up with nothing though. Maybe it's me.

I purchased an 08 sedan 2 weeks ago. When shopping around,I got prices quoted from $500.00 over invoice to $500.00 below invoice.I bought the $500 below invoice one near Los Angeles Ca.Invoice price is about $3,000 below MSRP.Go to Edmunds .com and it will tell You prices.I have heard of other people getting as much as $1,000 below invoice in other parts of the country, and this is probably true, because My $500 below invoice sale seemed to go too easy. They let me leave without buying the car,and I returned the next day.I never feel like I got the best deal, until I have threatend to leave, and they call Me back in and try harder.

When you say invoice do you mean sticker? If not-- I looked and saw that g37's run about $31,4XX. I plan on paying cash so do you think it would be wise to go in there saying $31,600 or where should I start?

NorthshoreMSRP is the window sticker price.Invoice is supposedly what the dealer pays for the car.Invoice is about $3000 less than window sticker. So if You paid $1000 below invoice, that would be $4000 below window sticker.Go to edmunds.com and build the car You want.It will give You MSRP,invoice, and typical prices other people have paid for that car.I paid $500 below invoice for mine,so about $3500 below window sticker.

Ok so now I know what to pay, the only question I have is-- I've read of people paying $500+/- below invoice. How is that possible? Aren't the dealerships losing $?

Dealerships won't lose $$ at the sale. There are some hidden sales tactics that consumers don't have knowledge of. One, there's "dealer holdback," which is $$ that the factory pays the dealer to sell certain cars. Let's say that G37's aren't selling well. So, in June, the factory will tell all dealerships, "for every '37 you sell, we'll pay you $200 per vehicle." So, the average consumer (which means me as well) will never know that this deal occurs. The consumer thinks that they're getting a good deal (and probably true), but the salesperson is also getting paid as well. Two, is interest rate advertising. The dealership can make a ton of $$ on the financing of vehicles. Three, they can make lots of $$ on trade-ins. Finally, when you're looking face-to-face with the finance person, they try to upsell you on all the "goodies," like prepaid maintenance (a rip off if you're mechanically inclined or not, IMO), ding/dent insurance, and so on, and so forth. There are probably other ways dealerships make $$. Hope that answers your question.

That does help- thank you. For some reason my mom spent $3700 extra on all the extended warranties for my Jetta. I know I can sell these back to the dealership, I will just have to call it a loss though. No way I will go extended warranty ever again cause it just doesn't pay. I went looking at my nearest dealership and found 0 cars just the setup I wanted (surprisingly). And yes I went on a Sunday so I wouldn't be bothered by a salesman haha . Looks like I need to come up with another 4g and I'll be a lucky G owner.

If you want to save some cash, you could also look into getting a used G35...or even a slightly used G37. I picked up my G35 used from an Infiniti dealer...but it only had 5k miles. Saved about 7-8k on the price vs. new.

My brother and I were just talking about that outside. I looked at a black 6 spd g35 with roughly 8k miles for 28k. I'm not sure if I'd even pay that. I'll probably offer 26k and see what they say back. It does have the premium package though...any thought on what those "cost" invoice? Or is it still a +$3,200 add-on no matter what?

Not sure, but my dealership wouldn't budge on their price...it was an "internet special" that was mis-marked. I tried the give offer and walk away...and they said see ya! Came back the next day with a bank check

I would jump on that low-mileage 06!!

Can I be straight up with you?

Go buy an 05 G35 for $20K ish.

Take the rest of the money and part it out. 20% for you, 80% for later.

Put the 80% in a CD and let it stew for a few years. You'll be SOOOOOO glad you did.

It's nice having a brand new flashy car, but having money in a few years to buy another car or something else (college) is a super amazing feeling and you'll be patting yourself on the back when you're 25-30 for it.

I speak from experience. I had 20k when I turned 18. I used it on all sorts of bull crap and I don't really have anything to show for it.

And not trying to be a cocky-moron back to you but I will be honest with you too. The reason I am wanting to "splurge" and buy a G37 with the money I get from the insurance company is because I already have a substantial amount of money that I have inherited. While I know this is not the most educated decision I could make with the money- it's the one I want to do. Being as how I have a soft financial cushion in-case I ever do need the money. As fas as day to day life goes though, I pretend it's not there. I called on the low-mileage G and apparently it's gone. So now the only thing I need opinions on is what should be my mileage limit when shopping pre-owned?

I do really appreciate your advice and have thought about it from both sides of the spectrum .Max

I paid $35k for mine out the door including Premium A, tax, delivery, 4year NJ registration fees. That was on 12/31/05 for my 06 Sedan

Wait and save until you can pay cash. Borrowing money from yourself is the cheapest way to go. Then pay yourself $300 a month putting the money back in the bank. Keep the car for ten years or more & buy another one for cash

Cool off for 6 months. Put that money to work for you and only use the interest or dividends it throws off. Do not blow the principal. Just my $.02

Good plan. I'd still avoid buying a new car if I were you. Why? The G37s are great cars, but if you stick around here long enough you'll run into at least two problems:

1) You'll get the mod bug and want to spend $500/month until you go FI.2) You'll realize that Infiniti made a big boo boo by allowing the G37 gain 150lbs.

$20k-$22k for an 05. Probably mid 20s for an 06. Which leaves you with $5k-$8k to sit on (interest) and spend (mods).

What is the mileage cap you'd stop looking at? Am I being too picky by looking for an 06 w/ under 10,000? If you cant tell, this will be my first used car purchase...

I bought mine with 46k on it.

Personally, I think you're a little too picky. A 2 year old car with only 10k is kind of hard to find.

12k/year is typical. The thing to avoid is a car that's been modified, unless you really love what they've done to it. I'd also get a CarFax on it before you buy it.

Are you familiar with the Gs? If not, go to a dealer and test drive a couple (AT and MT). If they have a stellar deal, you can buy it from them, but the likelihood is that you'll save a couple grand by buying it private party.

15k-20k miles for an 06 is pretty decent in my book. I don't trust/want to those who drive their cars less.

Thanks that helps quite a lot. I didn't really think of buying private party. Either brand new or certified pre-owned.
