In a last-minute move, Infiniti has pulled the plug on a planned "dealer tour" of the new G37.

Last week, Infiniti of Scottsdale invited interested parties to an "exclusive" preview of the production 2008 G37 Coupe, to be held at the dealership on Wednesday June 13th.

Nissan Sport Magazine was testing a production version of the 2008 Infiniti G37 (with six-speed manual transmission). After their cover photo shoot Friday night in the Los Angeles area, they'd scheduled a couple of exclusive sneak peeks at Stillen headquarters in Costa Mesa then and Infiniti of Scottsdale, in Arizona.

However, Infiniti didn't authorize a dealer tour, and an "unknown source" contacted Infiniti Corporate to complain, at which point the entire "tour" was called off by Infiniti.

Our question for Infiniti: Why would a small-circulation magazine (albeit a damn good one) rate first crack at the G37, when we here at the NICOclub Network have an audience of 125,000 people per day?

This doesn't make any sense??

Either someone is related to someone at the mag. Or there is some underlying "deal" going on.

Your thoughts??

According to our source at Nissan, this had nothing to do with our friends at Infiniti of Scottsdale....

Appears to have been the result of some upset east-coast dealers calling Infiniti Corporate.

I dont understand why they would do that, it would only generate more excitement. Nissan sure is being very stingy with their new cars, so I hope they dont turn out to be POS.

I don't think they turned him down, they probably never offered.

It's so surprising to see that they would just cut the string like that. Now they've got a ton of people waiting to see what their next move is and it better be a good one, or the car needs to be that badarse

...patiently waiting for the next move...

The problem is, there's a lot of people planning to attend this thing, and if they don't check in, they'll show up and be disappointed.

Someone screwed up BIG TIME.

And, like I said, my gripe is that we have 125,000 unique viewers a DAY.

Yet, the magazine with maybe a thousand or two subscribers gets the call? C'mon, Nissan.

maybe actual 'exposure' wasnt their objective (even though IMO it should be). I think that Nissan is fully aware of the exposure they could get through us and other forums (at least I hope they are) but maybe there is something else they were trying to achieve with the magazine.... I just dont know what it would be.... any ideas?

is Nissan Sport a thinly-disguised ad rag sponsored and produced by Nissan itself? if so, i could see why that decision was made.

No, the magazine is good quality, and manned by awesome people.

They do have some support from Nissan, which amazes me no end...

This just tells me that the person holding the purse strings has no idea that we can reach 100x the people than any magazine, and do it weeks ahead of any printed media.
