When using the manual shift option on the G37 it will automatically shift from 1st to 2nd. Will it do the same for every gear? I usually shift when the RPMs are in the upper 6000s. Will the transmission automatically shift for me to prevent redlining? I tried doing some searches on this topic but couldn't find any details on a RPM limiter for manual shifting.

I have a G37S sedan and it will hold the gear in manual mode. Drive it in DS for the quickest shifts.

in manual mode the transmission will not up shift for you no matter what gear you are in. if u go up to red line the car will continue to red line off of the limiter. if your looking for auto upshifts thats in ds mode or regular d mode.

suby01 - thanks for your reply, and that is what I thought as well but my car doesn't do that. It actually upshifts automatically, right before I get to the redline. That was the reason for my initial post. I certainly don't want to redline, but I noticed the transmission shifting out of 1st, I have not tried other gears. It's a nice safety control since you get up to 7200 pretty fast in first, but it's not really a "manual" shift then is it?

yup somethings duffed up. it should be like mentioned before in manual mode no auto upshifts. thats something that lexus does, no matter what mode your in as soon as it reaches a little before redline it upshifts automatically kind of takes out the whole point of the maunal sporttronic mode.
i have my shift points set to 8k rpm and it still just goes off the red line without auto shifting and i never use D or DS.

I doubt its broken or damaged. Allot has changed in the last few years. The 3.5 and the 3.7 have different engines and transmissions it makes sense that the car will try to prevent the driver from damaging it, even if they really want to.

Try this: when you shift into DS mode, do a down shift and it puts it into full manual... (you should see DS then M1)

the transmission will let you hit red line all you want and wont intefer at all, except when you are coming to a stop, as it will down shift if you take too long to do it your self.

when i test drove my car it did the same thing you are describing, but i didnt realize i had to get out of DS mode before i started to accellerate. DS mode will shift through 1st and 2nd real quick. then at 3rd gear i had full control.

+1 fastest shifting happens in DS mode though... while manual is more fun...

My old Grand Am did the same thing in P and N. Couldn't rev pass 4k rpms.
