Just picked up my new G37 6MT and am not happy with the Camry exhaust note. Just wondering if I have a bogus exhaust system (salesperson says it is normal). I have had a G37 6MT Coupe and a G35 Coupe and loved them. The best part of a G, particularly the MT models, is their performance and I consider a great sound that they make part of the deal.

Needed the extra room in the sedan and realized that I would have to compromise some. The throttle response was a bit softer and the 18" vs. 19" on the coupe were acceptable. I was so busy during the test drive making sure I could live with the compromises that I did not notice that the exhaust system has been dumbed down.

Has anyone else noticed or does anyone know why Infinity would kill a great feature like a sweet sounding exhaust?

The sedan's don't have the same exhaust note the coupe's have. Your salesperson is leveling with you. The funny thing is the sedan's are arguably quicker but don't sound as aggressive.

G sedans has a less aggressive note but weigh less than the coupe... so mathmaticly they are quicker... irony at its best

The G is one of the few cars where the sedan and coupe performance are so close that its not a compromise to get a sedan...

but welcome to the G family!!!!

I have been looking at this exhaust:

It's a lot cheaper than a full CAT-Back and you will get some gains...but it's mostly for sound/looks.

Here's a video:

Thanks for the feedback all. I seem to remember the sedans having the same sound. Guess I am thinking of an earlier generation of G although I also remember the car mag reviews commenting on the it. In the end there are too many other positives about the car to really get bummed about it. Don't know what the neighbors will do without the warning though.

I am going to reserve judgement on performance against the coupe till I have had a chance to test it myself. Won't jump in until at least 1,000 miles. The throttle mapping isn't as aggressive as in the coupe but power surge does come on quickly. And there is that whole 2 HP less in the sedan.

Thanks for the exhaust info Joe. Unfortunately I can't imagine the Tanbe sound on the G. Brings back memories of my son's tuners. The Stillen is better but still not in same class as the stock coupe. It is also a bit out of my price range.

In previous generations of the G, the difference between the coupe and sedan exhaust sound was in the pipe just after the CATS/X-over. In the sedan it had a resonator that restricted flow...not sure on the current generation differences. But I do know that the sedan flows better then it used to with a dual muffler design. The coupe still has the single muffler design.

the sedan's center pipe also has a little more sound resonance than the coupe. The sedan does have a little bit of sound to it though. Since camry's are dead silent in the exhaust department I wouldn't compare the two...

Sorry about the the Camry reference. That was a bit over the top. Although it sounds like the differences in exhaust systems pretty much rule out getting that sound back with the sedan.

Weight difference with the 2010 is only 20lbs and the 2009 is listed as 50lbs (http://infinitig37.com/tech.html). I've noticed the G coupe gets better launches than the sedan and is less tail happy.

Matt, you're comparing a G37 coupe to a G35 sedan...the 7-speed on the new G37 sedan is a beast on launches!
