Here is a link to some recent dyno tests ran on the upcoming G37. Site includes charts as well as 3 or 4 videos while dyno testing (sounds awesome).

Most interesting part is that a factory increase of 37 HP (293 to 330) has become a 51 HP increase at the wheels.

Thats a pretty good jump in power. I wonder what it would cost in mods to match that in my 07?

I'm a bit skeptical about the 07 comparison car. According to the Nissan news site, the 07 coupe only has the 280 HP VQ speced for it. The RWHP for the 07 suggests it's the 280 HP version as well. It also states the fuel cut-off was at 6600 RPM. The rev-up VQ revs to 7,000 RPM.

Still, 287 RWHP out of the 08 coupe is impressive. Not to mention the valve controlled airflow. I've been waiting to see this technology for years since I had first heard BMW was working on it.

Hey CK...you been hiding again?? It's been awhile!

So if I understand you correctly about the 07 Coupe. Even though the car has 293hp...the RWHP is actually 280??

I will just go and have my 07 dyno'd, that should end the RWHP questions. Id like to have at least 5k miles on it before I do though, just to make sure its completely broken in and won't hurt anything.

BMW was the first to publicise the idea of using it. Back in the mid to late 90's IIRC. Basically, it uses Electromagnetic solenoids to actuate each valve. So the valves can be opened and closed completely independent of the crankshaft. One major benefit comes from the fact that motors with TB's work by restricting the motor at all times except at WOT. At part throttle and no throttle, the engine fights against the restriction the TB places in the airstream. Infinitely variable valves allow both low duration and low lift, enough to limit airflow but would eliminate any restriction ahead of the valves. By being able to do this, the engine will act like it is running at WOT all the time, using the valves to limit the airflow. The lowest fuel consumption for given amount of power occurs at WOT as it is the time at which there is the least restricton.

I wonder if Nissan is using solenoids as well.

Been workin on my sister and brother-in-law's new home. I'm nearing completion but the wood flooring took some time to complete. This house has a lot of funky angles and much of the subfloor was in poor shape. I'll be working on mounting his plasma TV and surround sound soon. I'll probably be popping in here more next week.

As far as the 07 coupe, the nissan news site (http://www.nissannews.com/infiniti/2007 ... pecs.shtml), indicates the 07 coupe only has 280 HP at the crank. Doesn't look like they are offering the rev-up version according to it. So automobile mag may have been basing their article on the notion that the dyno'd a rev-up version of the VQ.

Maybe somebody can explain why MOST of the reviews and test of the car show acceleration almost dead on with last year model. The increase in girth only explain SOME of that if it actually has that much more power.

Here is a head to head of the two. The 2007 4-Door 6-MT and the 2008 G37 6-MT

If you look at Dyno charts the two cars make the same identical rear wheel Horsepower @287hpBut the 3.5 makes it at 6700 Rpm as opposed to 7300 for the 3.7

Also the rear wheel torque is 263lb @ 5013rpm for the 3.5 and 236lb @4400rpm for the 3.7

so making the same horsepower and more torque while weighing less and peaking sooner on the rev...

I would have to consider the 4-door since the only G37 winning category is the skidpad and .2 g's is damn close.

Great find but we must take it with a grain of salt since this is one of the first actual ones that got dyno'd.

However if I remember correctly it is very close to the power that Edmunds.com write up of the G37 Coupe when they did a review of it.
