I am traveling across the country in my G37 next week from Atlanta to Los Angeles. I am doing a documentation of the trip for UrbanRacer. My 37S has about 4,000 miles on it and I look forward to stretching her out over the course of the next week. Wanted to see if anyone would like to me focus on how things hold up or anything on the car you have interest in.

I plan on doing some GPS verified speed runs along with some other stuff out in the middle of no where. Going to run across the country in four days and live in the car, hopefully we can make it the whole way but I will miss showering for sure.

I will stay in tune to this thread so please drop any line, once we depart next week I will keep this thread updated with our posts and updates of our travel. Let me know what we can try and break in the G37 so you don't later.

why are you trying to find something to break in a perfectly good car, eventhough, I think such a goal is noble and commendable? Well, lets see how the engine and transmission holds up under stress and extended driving. See how good the gas mileage really is, and see how well the tires wear. do an iol test after the trip and lets know how bad the wear is.

That is awesome. I would love to see pictures a lot. Anything interesting take a picture. Does not have to be car related.

We had this a few times here. We love pictures.

Good Luck on your trip.

I am super jelous.

If your not driving your car hard enough to break stuff then your not really enjoying it . I will be doing a full documentation of our travel for sure. I will keep this thread current with links, leaving mid next week. Thinking of the I-40 route with a detour down through New Mexico/Arizona and then up into Vegas and down 15 but we'll see.

Good luck, but I think this particular car will break you before you can break it!!!

I just did an oil change with Mobil 1 5W-30. Great product, one of the last concerns I have of failure on the trip.

I have Bridgestone RE-050A on the car, stock with about 4,000 miles. Hope to see how they are at high speeds :D, so far, love this tire.

I always use 93 when available (91 otherwise) and my ticker is at 17.1MPG right now, will reset it before I leave and actually do some documenting.

As for a route I am taking is I-40 with a little mix in it. I have a Google map with some stops we plan on making. Please recommend anything on route if you know any place worthy to swing by.

I did the trip in May 2007. I bought my creampuff 2003 with 7900 miles in California - flew to Cali from Baltimore and drove the car back. Did it in 3 days. Took 40east out of la which parallels historic route 66. Beautiful drive. I averaged over 26 mpg.

New mexico only has 90 or 91 octane.

Enjoy.

Cadillac Ranch in Texas is a nice little roadside attraction. Theres always the grand canyon - which is about 50 miles off of 40.

yea I did hit up the Grand Canyon this summer so I think it's getting sliced off the list due to general time constraints. Did some GPS tracking with the iPhone application Path Tracker and it seemed to work very well although I don't remember hitting 129mph max speed? Maybe I was having too much fun for my own good but I don't think so! Here is a path I made near my house for a test if anyone wants to see how the program works.

My introduction road trip story should be on Urbanracer Monday and I'll link everyone up to it.

You won't have any problems. Torry just did the Atlanta to Las Vagas (through Phoenix) route recently for SEMA.

I don't know if anybody mentioned it to you. But the fix a flat is not a good idea if you have the TPMS.

Just camped out for the night in New Mexico. We ran straight from Mississippi non stop minus a quick power nap in a Texas rest area. Urbanracer.com has our story up from Day 1 which was cut pretty short due to weather.

http://www.urbanracer.com/arti...6&z=2

Love to hear any feedback, Flickr account linked at the top of the thread has some updates and I will get some day 3 shots up tonight. This was what our GPS verified speed wise:

Distance: 6.31 miles Time: 3 minutes, 41 seconds Avg Speed: 102.8 mph Est. Max Speed: 163.2 mph Avg Pace: 0min 35s / mile Est. Max Pace: 0min 22s / mile

Not really sure if we could of got it faster or not, started coming up to a hill and didn't want to crest it at those speeds. Here was our first attempt actually that I just looked at while typing this. Same exact speed so perhaps it just ran out of juice, we were 3/4 full on gas, full load and I had a passenger. I keep reading everywhere on the Internet the car is limited to 155 but no evidence of that whatsoever. Car held up and ran great through it all, engine temps didn't even move.

Distance: 2.31 miles Avg Speed: 135.5 mph Est. Max Speed: 163.2 mph Avg Pace: 0min 26s / mile Est. Max Pace: 0min 22s / mile
