There seems to be some conflicting opinions on whether or not the Fujita short ram intake actually increases or decreases (some say it decreases because it takes in hot air from engine) horsepower, anybody have info on this? Also I found a Takeda USA air intake that looks like it might be better because it has heat shields. Any info on a good air intake would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd say any short ram with a good heat shield is the best bet.

I know this engine gets the bay really hot, wouldn't want a short ram without shield.

The whole "short ram intakes decreasing HP because of heat" argument is BS. There is a constant flow of air while the car is moving...you're not sucking up stale heated air from the engine unless you sit at a stoplight or staging lanes for an extended period of time.

The better short ram manufacturers will have a heat shield. Personally, I like the Stillen.

For a reference on a 75 degree clear day on my 2008 xs my stock intake temperature would increase close to 10 degrees when sitting even for short periods at idle. Within a couple of hundred feet or so it would then drop back down close to its running temperature. It would run about 5 degees above ambient.

Thanks for the info guys. I've got it narrowed down to either the Injen or Stillen since they both have heat shields. Injen's heat shields don't look like they are quite as good as Stillens, but they use a filter that doesn't need to be oiled so upkeep would be easier. Stillen's shields look like the best around though.

I would not rule these out by Stillen:

That is if you really want to do this on a new car.

Ya, I don't want those because you have to cut bigger holes and remove the grill to install. I've been reading that a drop in like K&N and a z tube will actually perform better than the short ram intakes....

Maybe an hour extra work. Still I doubt you will gain much on your 'G' at your normal driving RPMs and in fact they may give up a couple.

I think I'm just going to get HKS drop in filters, they have good reviews, are non oiled and a lot cheaper than an intake that may or may not increase/decrease HP LOL So many different opinions on the hp and torque with the SRI's.

Stillen Gen3 is the best intake for the 37 hands down, the fitment blows but its best for the car

Check out this intake, has a dyno test showing better results than Stillen Gen 3, with much easier installation and non oiled filters. If I get an intake it will be this one for sure.

Looks like a candidate for a slight hood modification to suck from the windshield like the old cars.

I think the theory behind it is the shields contact the hood to create a seal, thus a quasi cold air intake.

fujita intake is the worst intake you can get for the G35's. ive posted about this a long time ago, its in here somewhere. but to answer your question my opinion no to fujita.

Ya, I ruled Fujita out for sure. R2C Powerflow is the only intake I am considering based on ease of installation and performance.

It appears you wiped out a quote here. Basically I was thinking of what would it take to do an air intake with suck from the windshield area like a couple of the old cars (I was thinking a Chevelle did this)? This intake with its seals would seem to be a good candidate for such a modification to maybe double back.

ease of install and fitment and power gains. would be the stillen gen 2 long tube intake. i would not get the cold air the install is way too hard and i would not trust filters sitting right in my grill. hope that helps.

Stillen Gen 2 looks pretty good, but I am going with the R2C Powerflow intake. BTW, anybody who is interested there is a group buy going on right now, follow the link below. I've done a lot of research and this is the best air intake for the G37, has dyno comparable to the Stillen Gen 3 without the hassle and oil free filters.

Just go into it for the sound. You may be expecting too much if you believe it'll make your car noticeably faster than a stock one.
