When I bought my car, i did not even listen to my conscience, much less Edmunds, Motortrend, and all the snake oil outfits out there. I didn't even test drive any other car---no need---my mind was already made in 2003 when i first saw a G-35 Coupe. I just went straight to a dealership and got me a brand spanking new 6MT 2007 G-35 Coupe.
So, i would say that you are doing yourself a great disservice by listening to anyone who claims to know a car better than you. There is a car that feels right for every human being on this planet. You need to find the car that feels right for you. I don't run with the crowd and never will. I do my own thing and i make my own independent assessment.
So, i suspect the transmission int he g-35 Sedan is no different than the transmission in the G-35 coupe. So, I would still enjoy driving it either way.
As for the G-37, I have driven both the manual and the automatic transmissions and for some odd reason, I feel the automatic of the G-37 coupe is a better all round car in terms of feel and ride. I am usually not an auto guy but I make an exception for the G-37. In essence, the HR engines seem best with automatic transmissions.
The G-37 manual is great. I still love it. But i feel the G-37 manual is far more beefed up than the engine's true capabilities---it also has a shorter shifter than the G-35 coupe, which makes it really nice. The G-37 manual, in my opinion should be mated to an engine that produces 350 horsepower - 380 horspower. It is seriously under-utilized with a 330 horspower HR engine it came with. In my opinion, an engine must match perfectly with the transmission. G-37 manual transmission, is an F-1 ready transmission---too beefed up.
As for the G-35, whether coupe or sedan, I feel the transmission is at par with the engine output. So, I have no idea what edmunds is smoking before making their assessment.
