Greetings forum!

I am considering a G37 6MT for the future and I just wanted to get some current owner feedback on how they feel about their cars.

I am most interested in your observed fuel economy, how the clutch and transmission feel, tire wear and the general overall ownership experience.

Thanks!

I have a 6mt and love it. But for fuel economy the 7at may actually be better with that 7th gear.
The trannys have had their fair share of problems. Some people have some chatter noise. Some have not. Also some people have the throw out bearing going out early but that is just a small noise that is there when in neutral and the clutch is out and goes away when you press in the clutch.
Overall. The car is a lot of fun to drive in the manual. If you are stuck in a lot of traffic jams, you may be saying otherwise (but I never had a problem with traffic jams).

You cannot put the car into second gear until the car is full warmed up. The clutch goes out every 25,000 miles unless you BABY the clutch.

However, the clutch is VERY SOFT.

Also, I have heard of people bringing it to redline and car grinding into 3rd? or grinding into 2nd. One of those two.

Gooodluck and Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard many mixed reviews on the transmission and clutch, which is why I was asking here. Buying an auto is not an option. After being without a manual transmission for 7 years, I am looking forward to going back to a manual. What car that manual is attached to is what I am trying to figure out.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Really? I havent had any of those problems or others with those problems. I was able to get into 2nd gear and it was negative 20 degrees out. i've redlined all 3 first gears and shifted without problems. But I'm sure someone's had problems before.

This is what I have heard on dedicated G37 site about the transmission. I did a bit of research first before I went to purchase mine. Most of those symptoms are still coming up on that forum. But then again, everything is different, such as driving habits and such.

Been driving manual stick shifts for over 40 years.
My gas mileage is consistently better than what I got on two Volkwagen beedles back in the 1960's that had 50 hp engines.I calculate MPG on every fill up. Today was 26.52 MPG, the previous 24.98 MPG on 16 May, 26.82 MPG on 11 May,25.17 MPG on 8 May 25.52 MPG on 3 May and 26.69 MPG on 27 April. etc.....
I can go all the way back to December 2005

Clutch
Original

Tires Bridgestone Turanza 235-45-18

OEM tires replaced at 47215 miles
2nd set replaced 99930 miles Bridgestone Turanza 235-45-18
last rotation they still had 5 to 6/32 left
I will replace them when I'm down to 4/32
No problems with the transmission

My commute is 100 mi per day and I get excellent mileage as I travel in early morning hours and home in early afternoon so I miss traffic both ways
If I get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic the mileage drops sharply

Good luck

Yeah I did tons of research as well on the dedicated g37 site too. That's why i went with manual. I was going to force induce my car. So far the only transmission casualty from a supercharged G is an auto 7AT. Upper gears gave out. Plus it cost about 10 grand to replace an auto transmission while a manual can be had for about a grand.

Oh Really? Wow. I did not know the 7 speeds were that expensive. If I wanted to drop 10g's into my drivetrain I would of bought a Porsche. That is redicilous.

I have a 5at luckily enough. The 7's I heard don't hold their 'rev's' as good, so. I went with an 08' Lol!

If I was going to go FI, or didn't have such a bad commute, I would of definietly chose the 6mt.

I love drivin' a stick.
