whats up,

New to this forum and looking for some advice on the g35x. I had my eye on this car for a while now....i found a dealer who is selling a g35x for 19,000....the only "problem" is that it has 80,000 miles on it...yep 80,000 miles. I took it for a test drive and i was amazed (coming from a 2000 golf with 115hp you would be too). If i didn't look down at the odometer i would have never known it had so many miles. It looks great runs beautiful just wanted to know if infiniti/nissan engines have a long life....Thanx in advance.

Here is my opinion for what it is worth. On my last visit to my local Infiniti Dealer to purchase oil filters, the parts guy relayed this to me. After telling him that I change my oil every 3-4k miles he told me about a G35 that came in without the oil being changed for 35k miles which blew the engine.

So my point is with an engine with 80k miles how do you know what kind of care this vehicle received? Even if oil was changed every 7500 miles the sludge that builds up will show up soon?

My advise is to wait until you can afford a new one with a new warranty.

If all you have is $19K perhaps a Honda Accord V6 will tide you over?

I'm gonna side with Telcoman on this one... Even if this beuty comes with full service records (rare anymore) remember that you are buying 80,000 miles of someone elses driving habits. For that kind of money, you should save up a little more and buy one with MUCH fewer miles and at the very least a dealer warranty. Don't get me wrong... I'm confident that my G would take me to 150k miles, but I'm a stickler about preventative maintenence. Unfortunately there's not a carfax report in the world that can tell you if someone babied it or not...

Just my 2 cents...

I believe that I would keep looking for something with less miles.Would pay a little more for less miles. What year is it?

There is an 04 AWD with 46,392 miles for $19,950 at my local Nissan dealer...Grey with black interior...

That's their asking price. Surely they would come down a few hundred more.

^ Ehh I have to somewhat dissagree.. The VQ is a super RELIABLE engine, the the proof of that is in the fact that it could run for 35k on the same oil (even then the engine most likely died due to low oil not the dirty oil itself)

I expect to get 250k + out of my engine.. and then I'll most likely do a G37 swap or put in a built turbo engine, anyway you get the point.

Now about the car.. I feel it is overpriced, I have seen G35s (not the X but still..) with around 80k selling for 13.5 - 14k

So the answer is, keep looking.

Sounds like you need to take a vacation in FL and drive one back! None that cheap around here.

There is nothing wrong with buying a high mileage Infiniti. You can have your nearest dealership check the Infiniti database to retrieve all of the records, assuming it was serviced at an Infiniti dealership and find out about the car's history.

I have owned a J30 and Q45 and got 133K and 165M miles respectively out of them until I got the new car fever. You can get much more miles out of the car as long as you service the vehicle regularly. These cars are built for high mileage and should be fine as long as you can research the records to be sure the owner took care of it.

Now the price is a different story. Good luck.

As well as the G we have a 15 year old Nissan Quest with a V6 VQ 3.0 engine. I changed the oil every 5,000klm's ( 3,500 m ) We still drive it daily, it burns the same amount of oil it did when we bought it and it has 420,000klm's on it. Thats 240,000miles if your on the old system.

This Quest has also been a tow vehicle for ten years towing a pop up for 7 years and a 4,500lb Airstream TT for 3 years. The transmission has been problem free and still works fine. These drive trains are bullet proof. I have high expectations from the G.

ok i bought my 03 coupe with 106000 miles on it...yea...i know, its a lot. but i got it checked out by 3 different mechanics at 3 different shops around town before buying it and they all said it looked like it only had about 10 thousand on it. they also said that the VQ's do last a long time and are super reliable. I wouldnt suggest just up and buying it, but definitely take it to some mechanics, because IMO, high mileage can needlessly do two things: scare people away, and drive the price down (which is good haha)
