hi guys, i just got a g35x, it a fine really fast car. BUT

1) ive read than the s rwd car is way faster than the x one, i thought i could keep up in corners/turns but is too heavier so that wont happend. its not an sti or an evo

2) cause its heavier ill have to buy drilled discs because i feel that it dont stop fine even with the akebono pads i got...

3) finally i like to change/upgrade just the simple/bolt on parts like intake, suspension, wheels, maybe exhaust (never open the engine and even i like turbos, theyre too expensive and gas eaters). but i cant find any spring for my car, just what i need to get more handling!!! soooooo

im thinking to get an G35SSSSSSS RWD:lighter, faster, with upgrades........ any thoughts pliz?????

Congrats!!!

There is a recent magazine article that shows the G35X is faster thru the tristies on WET and DRY runs......So, I would say nice choice!!!!

Oh, what year did you get?? pics???

If everything else is equal, the lighter car will be the faster one. That would be the G37S. In addition, the X's AWD hardware increases drag which makes it slower yet.

However, all things aren't equal. At the start, AWD hooks up better than 2WD. This is true even for cars like the Porsche 911 which has both the weight and the driving wheels at the rear. In corners, things are little more subtle. I have learned to leave VDC turned on in my G37S. Otherwise, it takes very little throttle to hang the tail out in corners. I suspect the X will be better able to put down power on exiting corners.

You don't want the fastest car. Instead, you want the car you can drive the fastest. Maximum performance isn't worth much if the car bites you on the butt whenever you try to use it.

Agree with both of you. The tests are done wih these crapy all season tires and that doesn't help.

I don't think the s or the x is faster. They close to each other. For sure the s is more fun on dry road turning and tailing out. Drifting isn't the fastest way around the curve but sure the most exiting. But in the cold climate it just makes more sense to have AWD and get best of both world.

Also here in Canada they tested 4 awd in the segment. CTS,335xi,g35x, C350. In the snow. The G35x was faster than any other in slalom. Also the interesting part was the the G did better with the VDC on than any other with on and off. Also wasn't much different between the on and off set for the G. That tells how well the AWD handles and how much the traction controll helps.

thank you guys for ur comments aldo there were a BUT and 3 troubles later, some ideas with that too

i live in an quiet dry area, it rains but never snows so the awd wasnt for that, i wanted an sti or an evo but better finished and eqquiped = a jap top brand infiniti for surei also know when awd starts they go way faster than 2wd cars cause they tend to slip, but ONCE im moving (trouble 1 and 2) im feeling that the car goes out while cornering or in a heavy change of lanes cause its too heavy and when its time to brake takes some time for the same previous reason and finally t3 meaning that i cant find any spring upgrade for the x one cause all models excludes awd

i think if i could get pretty much the same performance from both, not way way more grip from the x then do u think rwd g35S as a better choice???if you have an G35X will you change it for an S???also if you have an g35S will you change it fo an X??? WHY???pliz avoid wheather reasons because thats not my case

Thanks again for all the help (svt, kendahl & zozoka)ps: svt mine is the standard one (just for now)with 100% balck tinted windows!!!http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread/461507

All the springs available for the G35 will fit the G35X. The problem is that most will wear your shocks out faster. There are very few options out for the X when it comes to shocks. There are some coilovers that just came out by BC but that will run you around $900 new I believe.

My friend is running the H&R springs for the sedan on his X and it dropped the ride height close to 2" all around. It looks great and handles much better.

The X version has a more aggressive final drive than the automatic (5AT), but the same as the 6MT. So, you will be faster than most automatics not only from a dig but better acceleration. The AWD system is fantastic and will help in a lot of different ways, although if you don't have snow most people dont opt for the X model. Probably a cost based decision plus you can't get it in manual transmission.

Edit: Just saw the pics of your car. What year is that, 07 or 08? You in fact may not have a different final drive than the S model sedan. That was a 03-06 thing. I'm uncertain about the FD ratios other than 2007 sedan has a 3.69 Final drive which is actually more aggresive than previous years.

dohio69, looks good! Yes, I traded a 05 G35 for the 08 G35X because I wanted something that would handle snow. Was pleased to learn that it also helps greatly in the wet and out handled the non-X in the curves.

Good Luck!!!

G35/7x all the way!!!

While the AWD system adds more weight its negated by giving you better traction in any weather. As some one mentioned, the G35/7x launches better and comes out of turns better than the G35/7 RWD...

plus the AWD system runs RWD until you need AWD... best of both worlds. i have driven both the RWD sedan and the AWD sedan... and it happen to be a wet day when i drove them back to back... there was no question i was getting a G35x after driving them both on that wet day...

only "down fall" is you cant get a 6 speed manual... but the G's auto transmission is pretty good IMO. i dont miss having a manual... frankly i doubt i even drive a manual car again... as long as they keep making auto trannys that dont upshift for you in manual mode just because you at the rev limiter. The G will hold the gear til you shift in manual mode...

The only reason I would've gotten the 'S' instead of mine (which is an 'xS') would be to have the 6m transmission instead of auto. My choice was made a little easier since I am in Colorado, but if the roads were clear almost all year, I would get an 'S'. The fun with the 'x' is that you have the AWD system kicking in when you take a corner a little too hot, the AWD puts power to all wheels...but then, sometimes, you actually WANT to get the a** end out a bit, the 'x' won't get that effect for ya (at least at my elevation). But since weather is NOT a factor for you...hmm

I would think that a good upgrade would be BIGGER discs for your brakes. The 'S' has bigger discs, and the 'x' has the same size as the regular model. A little more work, since you would probably also need new calipers, but bigger & cross-drilled...now you are talking some stopping power!

As far as power, a lot of people swear by intake stuff. I have yet to do anything to mine...seems that my wife won't let me spend the money on a car that 'is already fast enough. Why do you need to go so fast?'

Check out some of the engine drivetrain & tuning mods folks have done around here. There are some damn fast cars from what I have seen! When I can scrape some money up, then I will do some basic mods to her...

just to clarify with all the mixed info...The X model is quicker to 30mph than the other models, S or baseThe base and S are quicker in the 1/4 miles than the X with a good driver who can modulate with vdc off. The S has sharper handling and better high speed cornering, the X is a little more balanced and heavier. The xS is super awesome and I want one. If only they came in 6MT. I would wet myself...
