I'm looking at a used 2005 or 2006 G35x or G35 sedan. Is the G35x a much better handling car than the G35?. I don't feel the need for AWD for the purpose of snow but if the driveability/ handling is much better then I would consider it over the G35 sedan. I prefer a great handling car over top end speed.

How do the two compare in handling, take off (0-60), and even the top end or any other differences I may not have addressed? Any more reliability issues with the G35x being all wheel drive?

I appreciate any insight on this. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to nico

Here is a video this is suby's X.

http://s19.photobucket.com/alb...1.flv

and here is some reading for you about AWD vs RWD vs FWD

http://www.motortrend.com/road....html

I hope that helps. To answer for the reliability of the X. I did not hear anything bad about it.

I would get the X if you do a lot of winter driving. Its heaver, so the 2-wheel drive would have an advantage.

Thanks,

It seems from the article that if all was equal the AWD will hook up better and get a jump. I'm not sure if how much the extra weight will affect it or if one overcomes the other and by how much. The AWD may lose a little with the extra load from the front. Maybe I could get back some HP by losing a little weight myself.

I think the AWD will handle a little better but maybe things are not significant enough to worry about. I'm not to worried about the snow. I drove years in old rearwheel drives in snow country without much problem and if it has traction control it should be fine.

I guess next step is just to test drive them and see if I can tell the difference.

More comments welcome.Thanks

I drove them both and couldn't tell the difference. However, it wasn't like I had them on a track or anything either.

Yes, I tried both also. In was easy in my case due to the snow we have. I think the testdrive would be a good idea. Let us know what you think after testdrive. Make sure you try both hard cornering and everything.

Tried the test drives. For me I think it is hard to tell the difference. I think the G35X may handle a little better but it may just be my mind trying to convince myself of that. I think I was not willing to hit corners hard enough to really tell. If I was on a test course or had more open road maybe I would push it more.

With all that in mind I just bought the car I liked the best on the lot. I was not dissapointed with the performance of the rear wheel drive at all. Talked with people about winter driving and most do not think it is an issue. We get some snow but not a huge amount. We get some ice which nothing really helps with much. Time will tell about winter driving but I don't expect a big problem.

Monday I should get the car if all goes as planned.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I had a 06 G35x as a loaner.

AWD takes a little less effort to drive fast through the curves. Even with VDC off, you can't get any wheel spin because it will just put the power to a different wheel.

With RWD you can have a lot more fun and have to be a a lot more careful when you turn off the VDC. My car is 6MT w/ sports suspension, which felt much better than the G35x. I don't know how standard suspension on a RWD automatic is.

So, if you're a good driver, and want a nice fun car, get the RWD. If you just want a nice safe car you can drive fast without thinking much about it AWD is a better choice.

In my opinion the G35 6 speed manual is a far superior handling vehicle over the G35X. I drove a G35X for 5 days recently as a loaner while my air bag warning light was being repaired. I couldn't wait to give it back to the dealer. Aside from not having the sport suspension, & the poor handling, the gas mileage is much poorer as a result of a 5 speed automatic vs a 6 speed manual. The awd also contributes to poor MPG.

Forget about snow. If possible stay home when it snows. Drive both again and I think you'll agree?

Once my son behind me than I have a verry safe car through winter time. I do agree the x taking the corners awesome. But if I lived somewhere warmer place I would of drive a RWD.

I would love the 6 speed sport model. I need a car that my wife can drive if necessary and she WILL NOT even try to learn a stick. A fun car with a manual will come someday when I get a smaller house with a bigger garage.

It will take a few days but I will get some pics up. Need to make sure everything goes through. I only say that because my last deal fell through at the last minute. Different car company and dealer. I thought the days of trying to trick people were over but they definitley are not, so I made my last deal fall through.

Hmmmm, What is more important? A wife or a 6 speed manual & a 60 inch HDTV with a big remote control?

Well, I picked it up Monday. Having lots of fun making sure everything works. Trying to attach a couple pics, we'll see if it works. Just a stock 2006 G35 sedan with premium package, Diamond Graphite. Nothing special on it yet. Someday I may start changing some things.

I loved driving it. Handles great, can't imagine the 6MT sport or coupe, they must be incredible.

I may lose the sunroof wind deflector, seems like it takes away from the nice clean lines.
