What are people getting for mileage in their 2005 g35x? I was thinking about purchasing one although the mileage figures I've seen have scared me.

P.S. Is there a performance chip or something that you can get to improve the mileage?

Welcome to NICO

If it is MPG you are after get a Honda Civic 5 speed manual

haha no. I really like the Infiniti and have pretty much ruled out the 330i because of the crappy reliability.

Well, a civic is certainly not a 330i.

^^+1!

Welcome to NICO.
If you are worried about mileage...esp. going from a RWD to an AWD (the difference is noticeable, but not much), then you are likely looking in the wrong market for your next car. The reason one gets a G35/37 is that it is a luxury/performance car. In its' own market, a G35 does quite well when comparing it to its competition. When comparing it to a Civic or a Corolla to a G35/37, your are comparing cars that do better in different aspects, but certainly not head-to-head. Second, a performance chip will improve performance. If you take some time to think about what happens when you improve performance, typically you'll find that it will sacrifice your mileage.
Hope that this answers your question, and if you are really interested in a G,best of luck in your search!

I already stated that I didn't want a civic or a corolla. I never said that the G didn't do well competing BUT I also have a 2006 330i and I get 27mpg driving it fairly hard. I've already looked at a few G35x 's but am starting to second think the mileage. I really don't need adivce although I would certainly appreciate your mileage figures. How are the brakes if anyone has had experience maintaining those...

I had brake pads replaced and rotors cut at 85k miles. I do a lot of downshifting and highway driving. 2k miles a month.

Wow, that's excellent. I've read about people getting them done every 20,000 miles.

My late father in law was one of them.
He had to replace brakes every 20k miles on his Chevy Impala

One of the advantages of a manual is longer lasting brakes, better MPG, and a safer vehicle in rain and snow.

Please don't compare a Chevy to an Infiniti. Not sure why a manual would be better in the snow...I don't like manuals because I feel like you can't get the full feel of the car. With an automatic you get the full feeling of how the transmission shifts and performs.

You purchased a performance vehicle that comes with a lower MPG than other vehicles. You need to realize that and accept it.

Run some numbers before you conclude that good gas mileage is more important than low maintenance costs. Calculate what gas will cost you for each car using today's prices and $5 per gallon. I think you will find that one expensive repair will wipe out any gas savings. While Infinitis aren't cheap to repair, German cars are worse and need repairs more often. A couple of years ago, the last time gas prices were high, people threw away thousands of dollars dumping their SUVs in order to save a few hundred on gas. That's stupid.

According to the EPA's gas mileage web site (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm), there isn't much difference between a 2005 Infiniti G35x and a 2005 BMW 330xi. The average of city and highway for both is around 19 mpg. The lifetime average for my 2008 G37S is 23.4 mpg. Telcoman's G35 does about 0.5 mpg better. The best I have gotten on the highway was 26.5 mpg.

My numbers may be higher because my commute is 100 miles per day

I keep very detailed records of every fillup. If I fill up on a Monday morning on the way to work and make three round trips with little or no local driving I get over 25 MPG. Higher if temperatures are over 40 degrees and lower MPG if the weather is colder.
At 6 AM this morning the outside temperature here in central NJ was seven degrees. My MPG on the present tank of gas is not going to be great.

my old 2005 g35x got about 19-22 MPG combined highway/street after modifications... stock was about 17-20 combined MPG...

your 330i has a smaller engine so id expect its milage to be better.

It's just as fast though. Again I'm not complaining about the Infiniti, just comparing.

Obviously I have not posted every fill-up in the past three years but enough to get a good feel of what my mileage is like.

Some people are getting 15mpg! What gives? I don't mind 20mpg but 15 is just unacceptable for this car.

that 15 mpg is probably real aggrisive driving city milage... have you looked at a g37? the 7 speed transmission gets great highway milage... i been getting 25+mpg highway... 17-18 mpg city with a heavy foot.

But like others have said... this car is not known for its MPG... i personally think 18/25 MPG with 330BHP for the g37 is doing dang good...

That's a cool site. I just imported my mileage data.

I have tracked 48,000+ miles and 158 fill-ups over the last three years and I get 20.5 MPG with 75% highway driving.

Maybe I shouldn't sell my BMW. 20mpg is not good at all.

For what it's worth, I got 23.2 MPG with an '09 G35x loaner (with the seven speed automatic transmission).

Maybe not your sound like one of those hard core beemer people.
chris01919 wrote:It's just as fast though. Again I'm not complaining about the Infiniti, just comparing.
Bmw has that low horsepower deceptive speed, like a Honda v6. The loaner cars at my dealer run a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile (by the book). A beemer needs two turbos and direct injection to even get near that.

I'm confused as to how you were meaning for that to sound but that is the exact opposite from the point of view of the majority of old school car guys. There is nothing like the feeling of a gear shift knob that vibrates harmoniously with the engine speed. I prefer an automatic because I hate driving in traffic with a stick, but I think you need to try a better manual vehicle, you need something noisy and aggressive (Porsche, 350/370z, Vette)

I know you stated you were not looking for advice.
chris01919 wrote:I really don't need adivce although...

But you should really think of having it looked at by a dealer of purchasing a CPO Infiniti. If not at least put a new set of spark plugs (only because you have no idea how they were treated, and replacing them early is one of the best things you can do to make sure you get the most efficient combustion) and use good fuel.
