Hello all. I am new to the forum and I hope I am posting this inquiry in the right location. I own a 2007 black Infiniti G35X and I have loved it so far with no complaints (until now). I just took it in to the dealer for the 15,000 mile recommended service and I was blown away (negatively) by the outrageously high cost of what I thought was going to be a routine procedure. I regret to say that I am typically one of those people who don't complain too often and I really didn't think about the cost until I had already paid it and got home and thought about it some more. I am kicking myself now. But I am wondering as to if anyone else had a similar experience with their 15,000 mile service for a G35X and what the cost to them was. Am I getting ripped off here? I figured if I took it to the dealer I bought the vehicle from I wouldn't have to worry about these kind of things. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to Nico Phillies. Glad you found us. Many of the guys do the maintenance themselves and I'm sure they will be along to explain what they do.

How much was the 15,000 service?

I just had my coupe in for an oil change and was reminded of the 15,000 mile service. He told me what was involved and I told him go ahead with the rebalance and in-cabin air filter. Soon after I remembered how easily I could have done the air filter myself. Them replacing that was more than rebalancing the tires. It was just under $200, I was kinda surprised.

I don't work on my car myself. I am not as patient enough to do so and I can be very clumsy in the process, eventhough i know what i am supposed to do. So, my mechanic does all my work for me. He does an excellent job.

At 15,000 miles, I had a wheel alignment ($79). At 19K - 20K i changed my front brake pads ($180), bought 4 new sets of tires ($900), and replaced my manual transmission and rear differential fluid (~$350). In addition to all these, I added a 5/16" plenum spacer, Mrevv2, JWT cold air intake and Z-tube, and Stillen exhaust. The g is one heck of an expensive car to keep. But i do it because of my love for it.

Welcome to NICO

And welcome to the world of Infiniti

Keep in mind that an automobile dealership is in business to make money.SalesServicePartsare all separate entities within a dealership and all three attempt to operate profitably. A fully trained experienced technician can easily earn a 6 figure income and as such the dealers are charging approx $125 per hour for labor. You may require the experience of a top tech to diagnose an air bag problem but not for rotating tires or changing oil or lubricating door hinges. Look in your warranty booklet that came with your vehicle under 15000 mile maintence. In my 2006 booklet the 15k service calls for replacing wiper blades. Not necessary. I replaced the inserts for $7.50 each purchased from Infiniti parts and the service guy showed me how to insert them in the wiper arms for free when my G was two years old at 47k miles.

Changing oil, rotating tires, replacing the air and cabin filter are all items that are very easy to do and can save you a considerable amount of $$$.

A 4 ton hydraulic jack is approx $150 at Sears, ramps $35, jack stands, creeper, a set of sockets both 1/4 and 1/2 inch including a 21mm deep 1/2 drive socket for removing the lug nuts, torque wrench. So for a couple of hundred in tools they will more than pay for themselves. Do a search and there have been writeups and video's for most basic maintenance items.I've been doing this for more years than I care to count. The best part is the wife usually leaves me alone.

http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread/341560

My only major expense in 2 1/2 years and almost 60k miles was replacing my tires.

http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread?id=307229

I did the 15k, 30k,45k,60k myself. Do you really think it is necessary to replace a radiator cap and all belts every 30k miles? I don't think so?

Some owners use premium gasoline because the owners manual recommends it. I disagree and use regular and my G runs fine on it. The warranty booklet also recomends changing manual transmission fluid every 30k miles. I replace my transmission fluid during a clutch replacement that on past vehicles generally last over 100k miles. Each owner has to make their own decision as to what they feel comforable with. There are lots of opinions on this site so you can read and make your own decision.

Good luck with your G

I don't think I am too much of a help since I am from Canada.

How much did they charge you?

If you are not happy with them you can do it yourself or try to take it to your nearest nissan dealer. They might do it for you and do it for less. Also the other good thing is to ask how much it would be before they do it.

The cost of gas to get over there would be in the hundreds if not thousands ha ha.. Well I went to go get my car serviced and they replaced my air filter and my filter for my air conditioner for about $170, not too bad I suppose, so I have no idea what you mean Phillies unless your car was really messed up or you didn't take care of it very well... Thanks for the offer tho telco

Very easy to do yourself.

Mine gets pretty dirty at around 8k miles so i just change it. You don't want to wait so long so the dirt and crud gets to the MAF. About a 15 min job.

Thats because my mod money goes to my 401k

On a more serious note, I'm kind of curious if many of the mods that are being done by many of the younger members to gain a few HP are killing their MPG? In looking over my records this morning, my G seems to get a couple of more MPG in the summer months (23-24)as compared to the coldest winter months. (21-22) It could also be the formulation of winter grade gasoline vs summer grade or the actual outside temperature itself and the time it takes for the G to warm up on the coldest days? Also I wonder if different geographic areas of the US get different formulations of gasoline? (15% ethenol vs 10% here in NJ)My G is getting approximately similar mileage that I used to obtain with my 50 HP 4 cyl Volkswagen beedle back in the 1970's.Quite a feat and engineering on Nissans behalf to obtain that from a 300HP engine.

What has Ford, GM, and Chrysler done in the last 30 years besides turn out crap?

I just think us younger people floor it more often. Also different air pressures and temperatures.

I noticed a couple of MPG better after putting a K&N in my 99 Exploder, 01 Pathy, and 02 Max. But, it seemed to go down when I put one in my wife's G35 Sedan. I called K&N about this and they say they never claimed it would increase the MPG, but instead the performance. I have one in my G Sedan.

After installing the Coupe Mid-pipe, I noticed 1 MPG better on the next two fillups AND that was with me 'flogging' it more than usual.

Would like to see what it gets with me keeping my foot out of it, but I enjoy it too much!!

When I bought my G, I did the same as in my Maxima, and record mileage miles/gallons.

When the car was bone stock, I was averaging 17mpg.

After intake and spacer, it was at about 16-17.

After adding the exhaust, I am at 19.

This is all city driving, with a few miles (8or less) on the freeway each day.

I was in disbelief, when the mileage went up after the exhaust install. I have been checking it every fill up, and it has stayed the same at 19.

Not to spoil anyone's fun, but have you figured how many miles you need to drive before you break even with the cost of the exhaust?

At $4.25/gal, it's costing you 22 cents per mile with the exhaust and 25 cents per mile before the exhaust, a savings of .03 per mile. If your exhaust cost $750 (don't really know), you'd break even and start saving money after 25,000 miles.

Hmmm, maybe it's worth it.

I didn't buy aftermarket parts to save gas. It's just a bonus, that I get a few miles better than I had. If I wanted to save gas, I would have bought a Vespa.

I just took my 2010 G37x in for the 15,000 mile service and was also blown away at the cost. The service rep told me that they'd replace the filters and change the oil so I was not prepared for the $399 bill!!!
My G is not even two years old and only has 13000 miles on it. They replaced the wipers without asking and even tacked on a fuel surcharge (in addition to the oil disposal fee) for some unknown reason. I added up the cost of the parts and it totaled $111 (including over $20 for the dealer replacement wipers).
I told the guy that I wasn't going to pay $400 for an oil change and he disappeared for a minute and came back with an adjusted bill of $275. Still more than I expected, but when I thought of the parts and the labor it was more in line.
What a scam! So far I've been very impressed with Infiniti, in line with my experience at Audi and Acura, but this was unacceptable!

for some reason simple filter changes are jacked up in price at Infiniti smh, thats bout all you need done at 15k miles outside of an oil change. they charge like $80ish for the intake filter and over $100 for the in-cabin filter. Thats about $200 before you even add an oil change. Air filter changes take 15-20mins tops going dirt slow, but they will charge you for an hour of work, plus parts.

then to rotate and balance wheels its about double what you pay at a local shop. The only thing Infiniti is on par with local shops is regular oil changes/inspection. So i make sure my car sees the dealer for oil changes/inspection to protect my warranty and relationship with the dealer.

My point is, do all the small stuff you can your self like wiper blades, air filter, in-cabin filter, checking fluids, battery install, ect. and only let the deal do stuff that requires intimate knowledge of your car like tranmission work, computer work, maybe brakes, or warranty work. You will save tons of money on maintence.

One of the big reasons i went with Infiniti is because they are easy to work on your self.
