The G35 is based on the Nissan FM platform shared with the Nissan 350Z coupe and roadster sports car

Wrong section.

To answer your question: The G35 is based on Nissan's FM chassis. The 350Z is also on the FM along with a few other models.

Your co-worker couldn't be more wrong. I suppose the G35 and the Altima both have back seats but that's the closest the two ever get.

Ask your coworker why he thinks the fwd Altima is more similar to the rwd G35 than the rwd 350Z. I hope at the very least your Altima driving coworker has the 3.5 Altima, because if it's the 2.5 he doesn't even have the same engine.

This is a funny thread.

If your coworker can't see the differences between the Alti and the G than it isn't worth to convince him. He absolutely have no idea what RWD vs FWD experience is.

The newer Altima and the 03-06 G35 do look similar...but they are about the same as the mustang vs. focus.

The Altima does have the same engine (if it's the 3.5), but it's FWD with a CVT transmission. The 350Z and the G35 are cousins...both with 3.5 RWD, with the 350z missing the backseat and getting more performance orientated parts (intake, exhaust, suspension).

There's a 6mt version of the 3.5 too, Joe.

OP,

The similarities between the Altima Coupe and G35 Coupe lie exclusively with the body lines. The chassis are very different. The drivetrain is very different (with the exception of the VQ35DE engine, which isn't the same between the two anyway).

The G35 and 350Z share the same drivetrain, the same chassis (G35s is elongated to accomodate the rear seats), and quite a few other components. Your co-worker needs some schooling before making a claim like that.

perhaps he was looking at the maintenance costs...Also, I've sat in both and the 370 is much more comphy for me.However, it would be hard to turn down the extra HP and AWD!!!!! As far as looks go, I like the looks of the 370 better too, but that's just personal preference.

They should put the attesa AWD in the 370Z. That would be tempting to get one.
