have you tried cleaning it? could try taking a wire brush to the pulley to clean off the dust and dirt, you could even take the brush to your belt. I do it on my mustang all the time. That thing sucks more dirt into the engine bay than air!

problem is, i don't think the sound is coming from the belt or the belt tensioner... it seems to be coming from the transmission... had my transmission fluid changed today hoping that it will take care of the problem, but alas the "whine" is still there... basically when you step on the gas, there is this whinning sound... even when your'e coasting to a stop, that whinning sound is still there.... don't know what gives

I found the drive belts to whine quite a bit as they wear out.

Do a search for threads created by me and I did a write up on how to replace them yourself. Cost is about $50 for both belts. The job can be done in about 1.5 hours.

Removing the underbody and replacing it takes 20+ mins. I also had some issues getting proper tension, so that included tightening the pulley up, turning on the car, driving it around, getting back down under it, and adjusting everything.

I don't have one of those belt tension tools and my daddy never taught me how to change belts on a car

transmission whine...yup have it too. Know mine not the belts, being recent new VQ and new belts...same whine still there under same conditions as you described. I hear it in cabin while driving.

Had whine since new and currently ~30K getting slightly worse. Another thread here suggested possible input and/or output shaft bearing issues if mine continues to worsen. Lots of warranty left so no concern with me if worsens.

But yeah...checks belts first. Easier solution if ends up being the noise.

^ Read your other thread. Ouch on the cost, but sounds like you're good to go now with no more issues.
