I have owned car since new. This winter when the outside temperature very cold, under 40 degress Farhenheit, there is a noise that sounds like gear noise when first driving the car. Noise persists for approximately 1 mile. After the first mile or two, no more noise. Noise is present in all gears, with clutch engaged or disengaged. Noise becomes noticeable above approximately 15 MPH. Tires are Yokohama AVID W4S with approximately 7000 miles on them. Same tires as last winter, no noise then. Any ideas?

Having the same problem with my 06 Coupe MT except my noise sounds like a wind howling and starts at 35MPH. I also have trouble putting my shift lever into 2nd gear. Both issues go away when the car warms up.

Its at the dealership for the second time. First time they said i need an entire new clutch assembly, but I knew better. Got a second opinion from Aamco and they pointed to the transmission. Will keep you updated...

Anyone else have this problem or know of a remedy?

Also see the following post that talks about it as well -

Like that linked thread states, it's from the transmission. Dealer should replace it under warranty.

The posts about this transmission noise when cold are great. I also have noticed the difficult to shift into 2nd gear problem when cold. I will take my care to the dealer with copies of these forum posts. Will let everyone know what the dealer says.

I left my car overnight on dealer's lot so that car would be cold for test drive. Mechanic accompanied me on short test drive, heard the whinning noise, said it was the transmissioin. Dealer is replacing transmission under warranty. The transmission must be ordered, arrival in 3 or 4 days. I will have them also replace the clutch disk, pilot busing, and release bearing while they are in there. Don't think I should need a new pressure plate(some people call it the clutch cover). Will let you know how it went when I get the car back.

Dealer is replacing my transmission as well. Im wondering if its a good time to get a new clutch in there too.

Apparently they dont sell just the clutch disc for models after oct. 2004 and they say i need to buy the whole clutch cover assembly - quoted me $501 plus appx $105 for labor (since they're replacing the transmission)

Good deal? I dont want to void the transmission warranty so im inclined just to let the dealer do the work.

Any thoughts? Alternatives?
