I purchased a G35 today. The car had 9 miles on it. I drove it home, went out to eat, and then went for my first drive with no-one in the car.

I hit a yellow light at 40 MPH and kicked it down a little taking it up to about 45-47 MPH. RPM was about 5000 and the transmission shifted down briefly and then I let of the gas and noticed the service engine light was on. Car seems to be running just fine. The car now has 48 miles on it and I haven't taken it over 75.

Any advice? Check gas cap, drive for a couple of trips and then if the light is still on, go back to the dealership or should I just go strait to the delearship?

Thanks to any repliers.:help

Hmm, gas cap is what I have suggested, but you have that covered already.

Since you are still under warranty I would just go back. With a consult they can zero the light easily and should be able to tell what ( if anything( is wrong.

I would take it directly back to the dealer and have them run a diagnostic of it. They can pinpoint the problem and fix it quickly if it is simple. Even if it is the gas cap, they can get it so the light will go off. I had a similar thing happen after I got mine. I checked the gas cap and everything else and everything seemed fine and the car drove great, but the damn light stayed on for nearly a week. I called the service department at the dealer and told them about it and they said it was probably the gas cap, but to bring it in and they would check it out. Sure enough, they checked it out and it was the cap. Took less than 5 minutes to diagnose the prob and fix.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help. I am going to take it to the dealership as you said. Hopefully it is just the gas cap. I traded in a Camaro for the G35 and the Service Engine Soon light was always on with that car.

So when the damn light came on the first day I had my new car, the third time ever drivin it (and I have been being pretty nice to it), I got really worried because the light was on most of the time I had my Camaro.

Here is the good stuff, not quite what you guys have but,

Car Info - 2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan, Base Leater, Sunroof.Metro Infiniti, Monrovia California.

Thanks again. Still love the car. I will feel a whole lot better once that light goes out.

Went to the dealership.

They retreived the code and it comes out to be an O2 sensor that the computer is flagging as suspect.

Parts are being ordered.

Great news. Glad it's nothing serious.

Definitely, plus you'll get even better gas mileage than you're experiencing right now once you get the new O2 sensor in.

Congrats on the car btw!

Nick
