long time guest lurker but first time poster here asking for an opinion:

a standard G35 Sedan is roughly the same price as a "bells and whistles" 3.5 Altima Coupe...

I'm trying to decide between the two. Navigation and the tech package is pretty cool in the Coupe, but it's not really neccessary in my eyes.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm willing to forgo all that for a G35 sedan. The standard (or maybe the Journey trim) comes with all that I would really need. The G coupe is a little out of what I want to pay.

some may say that it's apples and oranges (coupe=sport sedan=not sport, lol) to try and compare and that's how this may ultimately boil down to. I was just curious to see what others thought about this?

Thanks in advance!!

(I also posed this question in the Altima Coupe section, but let's try to NOT make this a competition, I want to keep the integrity of this poll)

Its not really an opinion in "OUR" taste , its more of what do you like ? If your out for a lil Zing in your ride, go with the G . For all the luxury for the Altima , like everything in the world ... you get what your pay for. Altimas are more of a Semi-Luxury car , an everyday anykind of car

Best bets is go with something YOU want, (the Loaded G sedans are )A lil speed sometimes - GMore Luxurious interior - Altima

Welcome to NICO!!

The G35 is a rear-wheel drive lux/sports car. The Altima isn't in the same class as the G...but it's your preference! The resale value of Infiniti is also much better than a Nissan.

Whatever you buy, this site will have enthusiasts to help you out!

Your poll is kind of like asking the primate house if they prefer bananas! You're probably going to get a biased opinion on this page...

The main differences between the two cars is front wheel drive and rear wheel drive. It's pretty well known that rear wheel drive cars generally handle better than FWD. My personal opinion is go for a RWD car. I won't even purchase a FWD because I haven't found one I liked more than a comparable RWD.

Welcome to NICO!

I personally would go with the G35 sedan. The Altima Coupe can't compete with the Infiniti luxury. The 2007 G35 sedan is one hell of a car.

In addition to the performance issues, I saw an Altima Coupe this morning on the way to work. Its pretty clear that Nissan did not intend for anyone to mistake the Altima for an Infiniti. I thought it more resembled a Honda Civic Coupe, rather than the G35 in terms of the sophistication of the body style. Also, it has a peculiar look on the front grill -- it has two silver slashes that look like a moustache in the rear view mirror, which is where I last saw it.

I haven't driven the Altima coupe, but that kind of hp through a front wheel drive means there is either going to be a lot of torque steer, or very light steering that is boosted to hide the torque steer. For that reason alone, I think the base G would be a lot nicer to drive. However, the best thing to do is to drive both and see which one you prefer.

Tamir is right.

Take both of them out for a ride.

They are not the same category.

coupe-sedan

fwd-rwd

luxury - not so luxury

But if it was me I would go with G. But you still have theoption to buy a used G coupe also.

I went with a base model G35S, and even without all the premo packages and tech packages, I still love the car. It comes with everything you need. Splash guards were a must, they just make it look better imo. yeah you should be comparing the altima coupe with a accord coupe or something like that. If you're trying to get a G then compare it with a 330i or a lexus is350.

sad to see these two even being compared.

And i agree, the altima coupe, having finally seen it in person, looks nothing like an infiniti. It looks 100X better in the commercials than in person.

Why? A fully loaded Altima coupe is 30k...a used G coupe (03-04) is a little less than that. Of course I prefer the G...I HATE FWD!!!

Why?

I don't know, I really don't. Something just really hit me wrong when I first heard about the Altima coupe months ago. Comparisons with the 350Z don't bother me at all, in fact, I kinda like it since the 350Z is a pretty highly respected sports car.

But honestly, in person, the Altima coupe isn't anything like the G35. Only a car ignorant person would get the two confused. It is really small and not as elegant and sleek looking as it appears in the ads. Looked more along the lines of a Saturn SC2 or Pontiac Sunfire or something small and compact like that.

What it really comes down too, is do you want a coupe or a Sedan, the Altima will have more features but the G35 will be a RWD 4-door (only bad side to that is driving in slippery conditions) Being a RWD car mean's its a bit quicker than the Altima as well, you'd have to add some mods to the Altima to catch the G35

Because he was deciding on which to buy I guess.

Not even in the same class. I drove the new Altima, yeah it's got a sporty feel, but if you have the choice...go G Coupe

I bought a used G35 coupe 04. Prefer it over a brand new sedan..to me they sedans are not comparable to the coupe.

We were having this discussion at work ..new altima or g35? I would say drive them both. I imagine the G35 will drive much nicer. Navigation system is really nice to have though..I didnt want one but it came with the car I got and it's sweet but still not as good as having a G. I say G..not really comparable. You'll feel different just having it.

The Altima has a vague resemblance to a G but that's about it. A friend of mine has one and I drove it. The FWD experience is just not the same as the RWD on the G. There is no comparison, really. The G is more powerful and more luxurious. I let my friend drive the G and he was a bit jealous.

WOW! LOL... wasn't there a hype about the altima coupe..it never really caught my eye..its just another Nissan..theres a reason why they separated Nissan and Infinity. Nissan's in my opinion are for lower class and middle class vs the Infiniti are for the middle class and upper class..does that help in your decision..

this is exactly why dealers in N America especially have different branding for the sane product.

Japan, there is no infiniti, all nissans

same with honda acura.... Honda type R, did equal the rsx type s or whatever here....

I don;t wanna be like japan but.... lets not kid ourselves at what a car is...

So....If you have a upper-middle class person who likes Nissan products then they are living beneath themselves?

Sounds more like a BMW-owner attitude there.

I hardly consider myself upper class. I actually would take offense at that. I work, not digging ditches, but it is manual labor to some degree (132 pound bags of green coffee aren't light, and we use a lot). However I own a G35. I definitely don't look like, or live in an upper class neighborhood. If a car is how you judge class of citizens, you have some issues.
