If you have a 2007 G35 Sedan and the sunroof stops working and makes grinding noises when you try to activate it, the motor mounting bolts are probably lose or even all the way out. After about 38,000 miles, my sunroof would not close and made a nasty grinding noise. I went into the headliner and noticed the drive motor was hanging down and 1 of the 3 bolts was actually all the way out. After getting the headliner down enough I was able to reset the motor position compared to the plastic rack that drives the sunroof open. The task that took the longest was figuring out how to drop the headliner without breaking off fasteners/tabs.

Interesting.

I just purchased an 07 G35X and just after purchase I started hearing a rattle which sounded as if it was coming from the left rear door.

Car still under factory warranty so took it to dealer and within a few minutes they diagnosed it as loose bolts for sunroof motor. I was surprised with this diagnosis since the noise did not sound at all like it was coming from sunfroof area.

They needed to remove much of headliner, etc. and retorqued sunroof motor bolts and noise all gone. Took dealer a few hours to do this job.

Perhaps there is a TSB out on this since dealer knew exactly what to do and we all know how difficult it can be to track down and repair noises in cars. I have been down this road many times before and this dealer fixed it correctly on the first try. Thanks for the info.
