Hi

I m thinking about buying an '06 G35C. Wondering how's the reliability? Are the maintenance costs high?

I currently hv a WRX. I absolutely love the car but my lease is up soon. The car give me no problems what so ever. As a matter of fact, I am thinking of either getting a '06 STI or G35C. What do u guys think?

Well, your asking that on a G35 site...so we're biased! But, the G35 coupe is an upgrade in comfort, style, and overall quality. I love the WRX/EVO cars-you can't buy a better car for weekend club racing! But they are not as refined as the G35 or 350Z. If you get a G35, you will be very happy, so long as you don't expect it to out-perform the WRX on the track. Don't get me wrong; the G35 is a serious sports car that can hang with the best of 'em.

To answer your question about reliability, Infiniti is known for its fit-and-finish. The power plant is an award-winning V6 that's pretty much bulletproof. If you do get into a G, don't discount the '05's. The differences between the 05-06 is minimal, the both have 298HP, MP3 6-disk stereo, and 19" rims with the performance package. In fact, I like the interior from the '06, but the '05 model has a better-looking longer style spoiler...and you'll save a few thousand. If you can wait, they are doing a slight redesign in '07, along with a super high performance twin-turbo GTR model…

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I've had only small problems from my 2004 but they fixed it right away and they gave me great service and a great loaner car to play around with. I think the maintenance costs are just as a regular car as long as you service it yourself. I think it all comes down to what you are looking for. It doesn't have a push you back into your seat feel like a turbo car does. It drives real smooth and I love the looks I always get. I still have my project 240sx car and everytime I switch into my G35 I just smile and enjoy it even more. You get great power with a classy yet sporty too.

I was going to buy a WRX STI before I bought the G35 but I said I would rather have a nice car I can drive around with a better resale value. Also I wanted more of a mature look and feel then some high school kid look.

The STI is a great car, but I think it carries with it a poor image of the driver in it. While I'm not trying to say the driver of a G is better than anyone else, it does make you appear more of a gentleman. When I drove in a Supra for a few weeks and in my Turbo S14, I got compliments from young kids. In the G35, I got compliments about the car from just about everyone. And the exhaust note is just sexy.

Maintenance at the dealer or anywhere for things you can't do yourself gets pricey.

To maintain the car in accordance with the owner's manuel is not cheap and is in fact more costly than a ford or chevy or probably a toyota. I have an '05 coupe and I have had two J-30's. The last three cars I have owned have all been Infiniti's and I have had no issues with reliability. They are great cars.

But like I said, if you are concerned with maintenance costs then I would stay away from purchasing ANY luxury car or sports car.

The tires on that coupe alone are about $1200 but can probably be found a bit sheaper at places other than the dealer but not by much. Plus I just replaced my first set of tires and I only have 17K on the odometer and I don't race, peel out, etc. So my point is anyone who tells you maintenance is not expensive is either mis-informed OR has plenty of time and knowledge to perform all services themselves. For me, I don't have that kind of time.

I personally have not been thrilled with the coupe but only because I have found out while owning it that I am not a sports car person I am a luxury car person but the rough ride will be my only complaint.

The G coupe is an EXCELLENT car and continues to turn heads everywhere I go. I can't about two or three compliments on its looks weekly and I can honestly say that this is the first car I have ever owned that does that, so the head turning more than makes up for the rough ride to me anyway.

Buy one! You won't regret it but cover your bases on ALL the maintenance costs first.

What I ment was it depends when your comparing cars. If you compare a sports car to sports car its about the same dealing with maintenance. If you compare it to a normal car then thats when the price jumps. If he compares the STI to the G35 I think the prices will be the same. Just I think the STI will be a tad more if lets say a differential goes out or a turbo goes out.

I agree with you! If you have a dealer do your preventive maintance, then of course it will be more expensive! But, you can save some cash if you do your own work on the simple stuff. For example, an oil change cost about $150 at a dealer, but you can do it for a fraction of the price, and as long as you provide recepts-the warranty will be honored. Now, to do it right, you should get a service manual (avaliable online for under $20), and follow the recomended maintance "tracks".

I've owned sports cars for the past 10 years, and I've spent WAY more on performance/stereo upgrades than maintance...even with super-expensive tires. Infiniti cars are built very well-hence the outstanding resale value. You will not have many issues...as long as you can afford the initial cost!

Wow! Your dealer really rips you off.

Frontier Infiniti in San Jose, CA is a lot lower than this for just an oil change. About $55 to $60 as I recall.

However, I do agree that this is one of the easier ones for me to get done elsewhere (albeit for my M45) for a lot less money!

I get 6 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40 for about $38 (including tax) from a local Kragen, Nissan OEM oil filters from http://www.everythinginfiniti.com for less than $5 in quantities of six (including shipping), and the local Goodyear Tire place (where I get tires from) charges me $12.99 for the change itself (keeps my hands more dirt-free ) ... plus free tire rotation!

If I did not use synthetic, the total cost would be a lot less, of course.

The $150 is for a preventive maintenance check, along with the oil change. If you just do the oil change its much cheaper. Unfortunately, the G35 coupe tires cannot be rotated unless they are removed from the rims...

I get oil changes at the dealership for $40 and they do preventative maintenance checks for free.

I usually go to discount tire in Dallas for tire work. Excellent people. No charge for flat fixes, rotations or mounts. Half the time I get tires from discount tire because they are almost always cheaper, however, there are times when the dealership is too expensive and gets tired of me buying the tires from Dicount Tire and having them delivered to the dealership for install and then the dealer just matches the price of the tire and does the work.

I have no problem playing people off others to insure I get a good price. I get screwed on the cost of EVERYTHING I buy in Dallas so any chance I can get to save a few dollars you better believe I am doing it.

Now don't get me wrong, I never skimp on maintenance. I usually get pretty good deals through the dealer. The normal person is not going to have the time or the knowledge to do maintenance themsleves and I would be one of those people.

If you are mechanically inclined then yes you will probably save a great deal of money but I was speaking for those of us who are not mechanically inclined and maintenance on this car, while not outrageous is also not cheap either.

Ok, I leased an '06 White G35C M6. Got the dealer to throw in free lifetime oil changes. Therefore I only pay for the rotation cost for every 12K maintenance.

U guys really persuaded me into it! Will post pics once I get in my drive way next week.

That is good!

Point. They do use different offsets on the Coupe. I'd not rotate under those circumstances ... just replace the tires when the tread is down on any given axle.

Yes, but the problem is that they do not carry the 0W-40 that I now like to use. 5W-30 and 10W-30 is relatively easy to find there!

I prefer to use Royal Purple; gave me no problems in my last car. Have you considerd using 10W-40? 0-40 seems to be a wide range...
