So as I understand it, the Infiniti G35 that is out now is actually the R35 Skyline platform. Of course, that is also the same platform that the 350Z rides on. So it seems the Z and Skyline platforms have merged into one. The new Z is a Skyline underneath, and vice versa.

However, I've also heard the 350Z referred to as "Z33", the natural progression from Z31, Z32, etc. So which is it? Z33 or R35?

It seems to me that Z33 is a misnomer that people just started using to refer to the Z before it was apparent that the two platforms were now one.

With all the modular design and platform sharing going on, can we even think in terms of platform designations anymore? How long before the Maxima and Altima platforms share so many components that they are more like different versions of the same platform?

ACTUALLY NISSAN HAS VERY FEW CHASSIS. THE R32, S13 AND Z32 SHARE CHASSIS DESIGNS, SO THE SHARED CHASSIS BETWEEN SKYLINE AND Z'S IS NOTHING NEW TO NISSAN.

AND IT IS V35 NOT R35, LIKE J-SPEC SAID.

Someone should make a stickey about this. It's been posted/asked a million times now. I'd volunteer to make one if asked :)

There is no r35 yet. The new Skyline in Japan is only a Skyline by name because they didn't want to discontinue the line. They could have called Super Dog Dung if they wanted. When you think of a Skyline you think of the GTR. This is not a GTR. When the GTR comes out you will then have your R35.

Here's some more perspective. We know the FM platform is found in the FX35 and 45, the Stagea, G35 coupe and sedan. The entire "Skyline Family" could be heading to Europe within three years. What else is slated to debut in three years' time??

They are sweet. I've seen many, many pics of them. That pic of the white ones on those rims I've seen many times. It's a sweet ride though.
