So as I understand it, the Infiniti G35 that is out now is actually the R35 Skyline platform. Of course, that is also the same platform that the 350Z rides on. So it seems the Z and Skyline platforms have merged into one. The new Z is a Skyline underneath, and vice versa.
However, I've also heard the 350Z referred to as "Z33", the natural progression from Z31, Z32, etc. So which is it? Z33 or R35?
It seems to me that Z33 is a misnomer that people just started using to refer to the Z before it was apparent that the two platforms were now one.
With all the modular design and platform sharing going on, can we even think in terms of platform designations anymore? How long before the Maxima and Altima platforms share so many components that they are more like different versions of the same platform?
