I am planning to buy a pre-owned G35 for my wife and I'll begin driving her i30. There are a ton of 07's and 08's available in my area - eastern Pa. Some are private sales with low mileage and others are at Infiniti/Nissan dealers some labeled as "certified pre-owned" with a 6 year/100,000 mile warranty. As a general rule, aside from the CPO cars is there a reason I should avoid a private sale if it still has the original Infiniti warranty? Also, can I purchase an extended Nissan warranty if the car is still covered under the original warranty?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

As long as you can verify maintenance records, I see no issue with buying from private party. You will more than likely get a better deal to boot. Yes you can purchase an extended warranty if the vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty. Infiniti power train warranty is 6yr/70k miles.

I purchased a used 04 coupe with 44K miles on her summer of 2008. Also purchased an extended warranty thru my local Nissan dealership.
Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples....take into consideration the tires, brakes, etc. Some dealerships will replace these before selling. An individual might not.
Trust no one, inspect for yourself.

Thanks for the info. It looks like a private sale is the way to go for the right car and an extended warranty from Nissan.
