Ever since I bought my G i have noticed a considerable amount of lag between RPM's and actually power to my wheels while driving. I just assumed this was common with G35's, however after trying to work a little google magic and see if other people were complaining about this, it doesn't look like they are.

Now I know G35's are generally slow off the line but even at say a rolling 40mph when I punch it my RPM's fly and the engines howls but nothing to my wheels then finally it kicks in and I accelerate but the acceleration is dissapointing compared with how the engine sounds. Is this normal? I drove my girls 2004 IS 330 and her pickup from a rolling start is quite noticeably better.

i can tell you that G's 0 - 60 is not best of class. That said, i have a couple of suggestions,

if you g is brand new, you can always have the dealer run diagnostics on it. if its 2-3 yrs old, i'd check the obvious: air filter, fuel filter, maybe take the battery out and have the ECU reset itself.

you can also take it to a performance shop and have the torque/hp charts mapped.

Actually, my first guess would be that you are driving a 5AT, am i right?

This is where most lag is felt. The biggest change is with the grounding kit. Also, of note are the electric fan conversion (if its fan clutch currently) and the engine dampener.

I noticed a big change after installing the grounding kit especially in manumatic.

Thanks for the help.

yes I have a 5at. I'm definitely going to get a grounding kit when i get back home.

I decided not to get the electric fan conversion because I have been unable to find any dyno info on it's gains. I figure if it does indeed help there should be some dyno info out there, right??

Dyno info on mods like that is rare. I have issues with paying $40 before, and another $40 after I do a mod.

You also have to remember you are looking at a mod for a sedan. Sedans are modded much less than the coupes (overall).

Remember this though. Companies like unorthodox racing sell pullies that are lightweight, because it lets the crank spin more freely. You're not trying to spin up a 20 pound pulley. That has a noticable difference in low end accelleration. Having a heavy fan and clutch is similar. If my G had a crank driven fan, it would have been swapped out the day I brought home the car.

Old school big block guys have been doing this swap for years.

But under pulley's underdrive the electrical components in the vehicle tho correct,?which would then put a harder load on the alternator?

That makes me nervous cuz old school big block guys usually aren't as concerned with day to day driving which concerns me, because this is my everyday car. Is there any cause for concern?

When you installed them did you notice the lights get any dimmer or the A/C not as cold or anything of that nature.

Grounding strips are definitely next on my list as well as HFC's.

I have underdrive pulleys from unorthodox racing. You notice a big difference. Alot of places recommend them, and so do I.

Hopefully I get to swap the fan out today. Ive had a 14" mishimoto fan sitting in my closet for about 2 weeks now. maybe even get to my engine damper. Thats been sitting on the floor of my back seat for 2 months now.

You can get either full size just lighter pulleys or the underdrive. With the full size you have nothing to worry about.

with the underdrive pullies do you notice a difference with the lights or any other electronics being somewhat weaker???

People haven't noticed any issues with good quality brand of under drive pulleys unless you have a large aftermarket stereo.

As for the electric fan conversion, anybody who races will tell you to do that first and foremost. Especially for the cost of what it would be.

We can pretty much guarantee you that if you go for a pulley set (reputable like unorthodox) grounding kit and change the fan..

You will notice a great increase in power in the lower RPM range as well as much quicker, smoother shift response.

+1 for the fan change and grounding kit. Those two mods will give you a big bang for your buck...I'd do the pulley set last.

The Unorthodox NON-underdrive pulleys save you around 4-4.5 lbs of rotating weight (I spoke to a technician there).

If you have that stupid clutch fan, get rid of it. There's a write up somewhere around here...probably the mod database for a swap. That should make a HUGE difference. It should also prolong the life of the fan.

1 of the 240s at my recent drift event had his fan blow up into pieces. It was a clutch style fan.

And check my sig for Grounding Wires.

I went to Infiniti parts counter on Tuesday and spoke with the parts manager about the electric fan swap... He seems like he's iffy on if it'll work, I'm like, buddy, it's happening, with our without you...

I showed him around my car, he seemed pretty impressed, I just have to wait until he emails me with some more info, I want the new fan to be perfect, no ricey switches, and

Look at the HP ratings amoung early gen G35s....

1st Gen G35 had 260..

2nd Gen G has 280

3rd Gen G has 307 (HP#s chosen for comparison-actual models will vary)

The main reason for the increase in power, aside from rev-up, is the absence of the mechanical fan.

Who needs dyno when you can look at figures like these... do the swap, I'm preparing mine ASAP!!! lol
