I'm using around 1 quart of oil per 800 to 1000 miles. No smoke, no visable leaking?? I've heard of people having this problem. Dealer says its normal? This can't be. It uses more when it's hot or I run it hard. I've gone up to 10-40 and/or tried Lucas stabilizer. It's an 05 with 18,500 miles on it. Dealer wants to do a long oil consumption test at my expense. Any ideas, anybody seen this? Like I said, no smoke, no leaks i can see. Where is it going? Any help greatly appreciated.

THIS IS WAY OUT OF LINE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE.MINE IS A 2006 W/9300 MILES AND NEVER HAD TO ADD ONE DROP BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA WHERE ITS ABOVE 80 DEGREES YEAR AROUND.I USE ONLY CASTROL 10W30.IN THE OLD CARS WE USE TO OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP (ONLY WHEN ENGINE IS COLD) AND LOOK FOR ANY SIGNS OF OIL ON IT AND SAME TO THE OIL CAP TO SEE IF ANY RESEDUE OF WATER (MILKY BEIGE SLUR) ON IT.IF ALL CLEAN AND YOU ARE NOT PUSHING THE PEDAL TO THE METAL DRIVE, ITA NOT A GOOD SIGN.ID YOU DO DRIVE IT HARD, PASTE ANOTHER NOTE HERE AND LET US KNOW.

I would pay the miniscule amounts to get a dealer longterm consumption test on the good chance that Nissan will replace the engine for free.

The dealer can tell Nissan any amount used in each test, so make sure the dealer fudges for YOUR BENEFIT...............I leave it up to you as to how you motivate the technicans to report accurately.............remember a new engine will cost you $7,000+ so a few hundreds here [and taking service manager to a expensive lunch] and there could be well spent.

Be cheap or rely on their goodwill can be costly to you in the future, however you have 6 years/70k to get the deed done...........don't wait until the last year to decide!

You can get a hand pump to suck out a 1/2-1 quart before you show up in case they place a seal on drain.

I wouldn't bother to explain this except Nissan should have known better.
