Got a 2005 coupe mid-pipe. Have it installed on my 2005 sedan. Pipe is hitting the small cross beam (looks like a thick wire) that crosses under the drive shaft. Any suggestions? It's hooked up snug, but not torqued.

Pull a Macguiver like Beaner!!! lol

This is outside of my realm of expertise, but is it installed in the right orientation?

How much "Play" do you have between the cross beam and the drive shaft? I'd say this might be a fine time to get a handheld propane torch to soften that cross beam and a mallet to coerse it upwards... if you have the room... ?????

Yes, I determined....that it was just added weight... It's now torqued down, so no turning back. pipe is no where close to hitting the driveshaft.

Now that I'm thinking clear again and not so , guess it's to catch the driveshaft if it falls out... Might try heating/bending it a little over the weekend and see if that helps. But, for now I'm fine without it. How many have heard of a G loosing it's driveshaft??

The coupe mid-pipe does 'fit' perfectly up with the y pipe and muffler, BUT it is not shaped the same before the resonator. It is bent up toward the drive shaft.

crush gasket cost me $9!! Got it at wholesale. Retail is $18 I reused the ring gasket.

Pretty clean up under there for 54K miles!!

Thanks guys for the quick responses!! Can always count on this board!!

When I installed mine, I torqued it all down and then put my socket wrench between the two and bent it just a little bit all the way down so that it wouldnt rub/vibrate. Works like a champ.

Hey Rich... Did you think of just dimpling the mid pipe a bit in that spot?

that's strange....what year coupe was your pipe from??Mine was off of a 05 coupe.

My pipe was just not touching the brace - was probably less than a 8th inch away. But, I knew it would rattle cause it would hit it when I would shake it.

That was your driveshaft safety loop. If your shaft breaks, the loop will prevent your car from catapulting. Lots of tracks require this mod on faster cars.

G, seems to have a little more growl to it. I did a quick compare against the wifes yesterday. Will compare a little more toward the weekend.

bestos02, would be curious to know if you have it or not. check when you can and let me know.

Thought you guys might want to see a comparison. Or, you might already know this. Just so you don't think I was high on exhaust fumes...again.

See where it goes up on the left more, that's where it was hitting

Rich, if yours is like mine was it makes very little contact with the drive shaft guard.

Bend it just a little bit where its vibrating and you should be set

Can The Coupe mid pipe be used with an aftermarket exhaust(stillen) and us there a gain?

Stillen cat back replaces y-pipe, mid pipe and muffler. Stillen does make just a muffler. I would guess that the mid-pipe plus the stillen muffler would help more then each by it's self but not as much as the whole cat-back.

You can replace the mid pipe (with coupe), do the HKS rear section, and replace the Y-pipe with aftermarket and build your own cat-back solution. You can even remove the resonator on the midpipe if you want to make it a bit louder.

High flow cats make a huge improvement in the vq35. Headers/High Flow cats are my next mods.

I want headers, HFCs and HKS Twin Power DLI II. Also i want a dyno tune. After all these mods i would deem it wise.
