Hello, I have an 03 G35 sedan w/ 120k. The car is in very good condition w/ lots of power and shifts well. Automatic.

However, when I first start the car and begin to drive as the car shifts gears, low speed I hear a metal on metal sound coming from the front drivers side. The sound does not occur again unless I have just started the car and begun to drive again. If I am driving come to a stop etc it does not happen, only after first starting and going. It is a very annoying sound.

Anyone else have this happen to them? After the noise it drives like a dream.

Thanks

Heat shield??
I would get up underneith it and shake/bang on the exhaust and anything else to see if I could manually reproduce the sound.

I have found numerous people who have this issue. Say it is the ABS Purge self-check.

Yeah, I was thinking it had to do with the front brakes adjusting itself.

shouldn't sound like metal on metal though...its more of a ABS simulation sound than a clunking/clanking sound.

could it be that your calipers are not releasing? in other words, the break pads are still slightly rubbing the rotor? you wouldnt hear this wth higher speeds because of road noise/engine RPM
