My good friend, I fear to tell you that the majority of my solution to the never ending surprises posed by my G-35 is to flog the hell out of the car. When I mean flog the car, I really mean 6,000 to 7,000 RPM, routinely---Oh, yes, the car loves it like hell. I can't explain to you why flogging the car seems to bring it to its senses, I just know it does. BTW, I have a 2007 G-35 Coupe 6 MT.
First of all, I use Genuine Nissan Manual Transmission oil as stated in the manual. It works perfectly well. When I bought my car newly, sometimes in 3rd and 4th gear, my shift knob would shudder and vibrate for no apparent reason. I would then put it in neutral and then move it to the next higher or lower gear to the one that had earlier shuddered. However, after many untold hours of flogginig the car and being pulled over 6 times by cops, all those crazy symptoms of the car have varnished faster than David Cooperfield could hide "Lady Liberty" or the Statue of Liberty.
When I changed my transmission fluid, I tried using synthetic manual transmission gear oil---I didn't like the feel of it as Ii felt like my hands were actually touching the iron and steel inside the gear box. I asked them to remove the synthetic stuff and replace it with the gear oil recommended by Nissan. My car whined and whistled a litle bit at that time. But now, all that noise is gone. Occassionally, I hear the whinning noise and then it is gone for days and sometimes weeks.
I have also discovered that when I try to shift when the car is moving slowly, the synchronizer seems to sometimes fail to direct the gears into the right place only by a small margin. However, I have never ground the gears at all.
So, my advice to you is to flog the car routinely. This is the only language the car understands--ti has solved many of the car's problems except for preventing me from being pulled over byand hurriedly put together. Many parts of the car that are failed were not a consequence of bad parts, but a consequence of poor workmanship. I say this becausethe previous engine my car had and my current transmission were like oil and water. But the current revised engine I have and my current transmission work like husband and wife---happily living their lives together under the sheets or hood.
