I ran across this article in Smart Money Mag:

I really didn't think they were that bad.

Bull****...

I just replaced my bumper cover & grill painted for a grand total of $300..

it only takes 20 minutes to take off the bumper cover.

You can replace both headlights, grill, bumper cover & radiator support for around $1000.

Labor would be 6 hours total + paint.. a grand total of < $2000

I don't know where they get this crap from...

They probably took it to the dealership, and we all know how expensive they can be.

In a way i agree with this guy, i remember when i was just a small kid, and my parents car had those chrome bumpers and they took a beating. now you get so much a scratch, or minor bump and you pay thousands of dollars.

Seems like an opportunity for aftermarket manufacturer to take business away from the stealerships. Make an exact replica of an OEM bumper, undercut the stealership and partner with the major auto insurance carriers.

Replacing just the bumper with paint and labor included will run you $700-800.

What they probably had happen was the bumper damaged the fenders as well, so they probably need repainting. I believe it that they're bad, cost not so much. All it takes to puncture it is just an aggressive love tap.

For some reason, this is not allowed I just bought and sold a coupe bumper recently. The seller said that the dealership he worked for received it without the Nissan tag and couldn't sell it because of that.

There are plenty of seller doing replicas and after market bumpers on ebay, but the shell itself retails for $350 anyways.

We need someone to put some titanium bars behind the impact foam

Depends on the damage. If you go mickey mouse on it, yes it will be cheaper. But the bumper is a POS. It's paper thin, and the only thing the bumper "cover" does is "cover" the frame behind it. Older cars have reinforced bumpers with 1-3" padding that can take a beating.

The G35 bumper is paper thin, scrapes real easily and crumples into a pile of shlt upon impact. Older model bumpers can take a beating and usually pop back into place.... a 5mph impact on older bumpers does nothing. A 5mph impact in a G35 bumper = frame damage.

Yeah but I think we can all agree that the bumpers now look a lot better than the bumpers of yore. Plus it seems like while the new bumpers might not be as strong, overall the car is a lot better in an accident. Meaning that while it may cause more monetary damage, it causes less bodily damage. I think I will take an extra grand worth of damage to keep myself from getting a broken body part.

All new cars have bumpers like glass, one little tap and its all over. Makes for a lot of expletives getting shouted.

I'm curious as to why the bumpers can't be more flexible and less brittle. The older plastic seemed to give a little more.
