So, instead of spending $80 on some new H1 bulbs for my fogs, my buddy is selling Japanese HID kits for about the same price.

I'm thinking about doing an HID conversion. Any thoughts? Potential forseeable issues or problems? Heat? Fitment?

2002-2005 BMW bulbs use H7 bulbs, but convert the plug to a 9006, so you can't go with any aftermarket HID setups and you're forced to buy stock. I haven't looked at the plug/housing socket on the G yet, is it normal or retarded like the BMWs?

I think the only problem would be finding a spot to mount the ballast. These are not ebay kits either. We installed one on my buddy's Range Rover last night... bright as hell!! I'm thinking I should go about 5000-6000K to match the stock low beams.

Stock low beams are 4300K. I upgraded to 6000K which I think is the best.

I haven't done the H1 -> HID fog conversion, but I know there are people who have.

I'm sure they'll throws something your way here.

av8or, that looks clean!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 03-05's have H4 fogs that serve as the high beam as well. 06-07's have H1's that serve only as fogs and the high beam is integrated into the top low/high beam HID. Correct? I have an 06.

Also, where did you mount your ballasts? It's a pretty tight squeeze in that area.

Also, did you have to take your bumper off? Or were you able to maneuver through the wheel well with the plastic splash guard pushed back?

removed the 9003/h4 bulb and installed a hid kit.. pita to do because it's not a plug and play... had to cut and splice some wires and modify the housing a bit...

not off.. just pushed it down.. but you have to remove all screws holding the bumper.. you need to remove your headlights..

if that is the case then it should be the same installation.. there is a hid h1 kit...
