I was told some people can watch movie DVDs on their NavigationSystems. Is there a way to play a movie DVD on the G35's navigationsystem if I eject the navigation DVD and put in a movie??

ThanksTom

There is a fix you can do, but it involves messing with the wiring harness. Do a search for more info. Also, check out the G-series FAQ (link in my sig) for tons of info on our cars!

I'm off to class in a few minutes so I don't have time to post much detail. But the factory NAV DVD player will not read multimedia files of any type. What can be done is that a video switch can be added inline on the factory signal and your own video source can be added (external DVD player for example). AVelectronics and TVanNav2go are two companies that make such a switch. I used one when I had a G called a Navbox (made by the same guy that made the nonag I mentioned in your other thread) that only allowed an XBOX to be hooked up to it, but it was cheap and my intent was to use an Xbox anyways. I currently have the AVelectronics unit in my Titan so I can display the Rear DVD player's video on the nav screen. There might be some additional detail you can find if you search for posts I made in regards to this. Let me know if you can't find anything and I'll try to find some when I have more time.

The DVD slot won't read a movie - you have to intercept off a video source to play on the screen. People have done this with products that intercept the backup camera's, but you aren't going to get that great a quality because it is not a HD screen. You should look into an aftermarket setup if you are really interested in it.

I wouldn't worry about quality too much. The screen is small enough that any significant increases in pixel count would hardly be noticed. PQ is pretty good as is. The bigger issue is that both systems I've used interlace the video signal, which is revealed during fast moving shots. Not a huge problem, but noticable nonetheless. I'd imagine it might be because these video switches use a composite connection rather than any signal that might be able to send a non-interlaced signal (Component, D-Sub, DVI/HDMI). Not a big deal unless you are trying to create home theatre quality in your car. I'd personally rather spend the money on my home theatre system than any in-car system. Not sure how many in-car DVD players even have the capability to send a non-interlaced signal anyways...
