I just bought my G35 Coupe and I drove it for about 3,300 Miles then i went for a oil change, and found out that 4 1/2 quarts of oil were missing when I checked it like a week before and it read normal. The mechanic told me that my rings are no good. I need to rebuild it. The total is $2,100 to much??

:wtf2:

Welcome to NICO

Sorry to hear what happened.

You didn't mention your year but my 06 would often use a qt every 1k miles so I'm not surprised that by rarely checking your oil your engine is toast. I check my oil and fluids weekly.

My $.02 is to get another vehicle.
See what a dealer will give you on a trade in.
I had a valve break on my 66 VW beedle. The VW dealer gave me $500 for it on a trade in on a brand new 69 VW for $2000.00

There may be someone willing to give you more than what a dealer would but then there is the hassle factor.

Good luck

I think you need a new mechanic. I've been reading a lot of forums about G35's and some of the engines go through a lot of oil, 'normally'. But I have rebuilt a lot of Chev 350 performance engines because I own/race a sprint car and I can tell you that $2100 is way too low for putting rings into your engine. The heads have to come off, the oilpan has to come off, then the cost of rings, gaskets, labour. And while it's apart, the heads might as well be freshend, new rod bearings put in, might as well put in some crank bearings. So basically, since it's apart, freshen the whole engine and it'll be like brand new. Look at the top of your engine and imagine the time it would take just to pull the heads off, let alone the rest of the work plus parts plus reassembly. If it's still running, ie: you haven't seized the engine due to lack of oil, then top it up, drive it and check the dipstick once in a short while and consider yourself lucky. I've seized a few engines over the years and on average I'd say the rebuild cost is minimum 2k, and that's for a Chevy, where parts are dirt cheap and the engine can be pulled out and disassembled in about 2 hours. Not going to be like that for an Infiniti.

I agree with oww...2k is WAY low for cracking open the engine!! The 05-06 REVUP engines have been known to consume oil. If it's less than 1qt/month, probably not worth the trouble.

+1

if the consumtion is slow... just add more oil from time to time and save that $2k+.

Or just trade car for a non rev-up G or 07+ G where the problem dosent exist.

Good to know. I'm going to check everything and the paper work when I get the car back. Thanks!
